“What exactly does he do?”
“He’s a businessman. At least, that’s what he calls himself.I think he’s involved with some fucked-up shit like human trafficking.”
Fuck, his family was still dealing with the trafficking business Lorenzo Maretti built. He was glad the man was either dead or begging to be after that woman took him away.
“One more reason to kill him.”
“Tell me everything you saw happen with Nala?”
For the next hour, Burt went over everything he saw and heard.
“I’ve got one more question,” Drew said.“Why didn’t you do anything about him?”
“My father was his head of security until Warner killed him.My father was the one who hired me.I grew up around some bad shit.I’m used to a lot of it, and the stuff that upset me, I was taught to turn my back on.”
Drew nodded. He understood that. He’d grown up around violence, too, so he knew firsthand what it felt like.
“Do you want to watch us play with your friend or be put down now?”Drew asked him.
Burt didn’t hesitate.“I don’t want to watch.”
Drew pulled a gun from the back of his pants and pointed to the man’s head.“So be it.”The gun went off, and the man slumped to the side.
Drew put his gun away.“Now comes the fun part.Take his gag out, and someone hand me the pliers.”He took two bad men off the streets, so he felt proud of himself. He was a bit nervous about having to tell Alastair, but he didn’t think his cousin would have a problem with it.
Chapter Thirteen
Sara laughed, clapped, and hopped in place as Nala looked at herself in the mirror.
Was that really her? She’d never looked this pretty before. She was wearing the first dress, but now her hair was back to its original color, which was very dark, and it fell to the middle of her back.Sara cut it a little to make it lay better, and it helped her hair to curl at the ends.
“I love your hair,” Sara said.
“It’s never looked so nice.”Nala turned to Sara and hugged her.“Thank you so much.”
Sara squeezed.“You’re welcome. We’ll have to set up a day a month for spa day and have the cousins come here. You’ll love them.”
“That sounds fun.”
“How about a late lunch? We could eat it in the garden.”
“That would be nice.I’ve seen it out Drew’s window and wanted to explore.”
Sara smiled.“Anytime you want.We have security all over, so you’re safe.I’ll take you around after we eat.”
Safety was something she didn’t think she ever had before.
They sat at a white iron table under the gondola.Nala laughed so hard that her stomach hurt.
“Come on.I’ll show you the pool.”
Nala perked up.She would love to learn how to swim.
Nala’s breath caught. The thing was big with crystal-clean water. It was shaped like a kidney and had a hot tub at one end.
“Would you like to go swimming?”Sara asked.
“I would love to, but I don’t know how.”
