“I’m sure it will. They know what happened, they just haven’t seen me in person since.”
“Have fun.” He winked at her before heading to the door.
She was just turning back to her screen when voices sounded from the foyer. She grinned at hearing Henry’s laugh as he spoke to Leo.
She opened her bottom door and pulled out her purse but frowned when she looked up. Henry and Owen were in her office doorway…but no Brigid.
“Hey. Brigid didn’t come with you?” She glanced at her watch, noticing it was ten past the time they were all supposed to arrive. Brigid was never late.
Henry shook his head. “No. I thought she’d be here already.”
Strange. She pulled her cell from her bag and tried Brigid’s number, but after five rings, it went to voice mail.
“We could just go get her,” Owen suggested. “Her store’s only one street over, right?”
Henry nodded. “Good idea. Let’s do it.”
Hannah rose and walked around her desk, then stopped to place a hand on her stomach. God, she really wasn’t feeling well today.
Henry stepped forward, touching her arm. “Hey. You okay?”
“Yeah. I’ve been taking pain medication for the head injury, and it’s making me nauseous.”
“How’s your blood sugar?”
She tapped her watch, swiping to the monitor reading. “I’m a bit low, but that’s not a surprise. It’s been all over the place because of stress.”
She went back and grabbed a granola bar from her drawer.
When they reached the street, Owen shoved his hands into his pockets, giving her a small smile. “So…how’re you doing?”
She lifted a shoulder. “Not too bad, considering. I’d be better if we could find the guy who attacked me.” She cast a quick glance around. At least now, the feeling of being watched made sense. The protective detail Erik and Chandler had organized was somewhere, hiding in the shadows.
Was that all it was, though? Were the eyes she felt watching her just from the bodyguard? And if so, and she knew about him, why did the feeling still make her skin crawl?
She forced her gaze back to Owen. “I’m sorry we’ve had to cancel two of our appointments.”
He shook his head. “You don’t need to apologize. You’ve had a lot going on.”
“I could take you after lunch?”
Henry grinned. “That’s a good idea. It means I can join and give you my very honest opinion.”
Hannah’s eyes narrowed on her friend. “Howhonest?”
“I’ll look at every inch of every wall for cracks. I’ll turn on every tap and inspect every air duct.”
She wrinkled her nose, not sure she wanted him to join.
Owen chuckled. “It’s okay. I need to get to work on a bike I’m fixing up. I’m not in any rush. Just give me a call when you have time.”
Yeah, another time sounded good to her too. A time when Henry would be conveniently busy.
When they reached Brigid’s lingerie store, Hannah pushed inside to see a handful of customers, all women. Brigid’s part-time salesclerk was helping two women on one side of the shop, while Brigid helped a woman on the other side.
Her gaze shot up when they entered, eyes widening like she’d just realized she’d forgotten about their lunch.
“Maybe we should wait outside,” Hannah said quietly to the guys.
