Alexi handles this question since this is his area to cover. “There will be key areas to look out for, and the hospital will be heavily protected. Doc will be with us and has hired a team of twenty others, who have all been vetted by us personally, to be there too. They will handle transport, all we will need is for Lev to give them a pickup point.”

“Doc, get to the pier now.” My voice is frantic as I instruct the drone to hover closer to the boat. Angelo pops up quickly, steering the vessel back on track to the pier.

Evie is slower to get up, but once she does, I breathe a sigh of relief at the same time Laney gasps.

“No, Akio.”

Blood covers his back, but in no time at all, it looks like he’s talking to Evie. She takes off her wet shirt, leaving herself in just a sports bra as she holds the material to Akio's shoulder.

“He’s going to be okay,” I tell Laney.

Then over the comms I say, “Alexi, get to the piers with an extra shirt.”

He will literally kill anyone who sees Evie in a wet sports bra and leggings, and Akio has already been shot. Angelo wouldn’t dare even look at her right now, so hopefully no one on our side needs to die today.

The drones follow them, and Doc helps unload Akio into the back of an all-terrain vehicle we had shipped here for today to help the injured. It should be able to reach anywhere on the island.

Alexi swiftly takes off his shirt and hands it to Evie ,but she throws it back at him calling him ‘overly possessive’. I snicker at that and so does Laney.

Once Akio is taken care of, Alexi starts to make his way toward the cliffs on the outer part of the island where he should be separated from anyone else with the fires.

I check the feed over the island to make sure the fire isn’t spreading too far with the wind, and it seems well contained for now.

“Mac, how’s it going with the server?” I ask.

“Working on breaking into the system now.”

“In the server,” Laney says as they both type at the speed of light. I turn my screen to theirs and connect to the program. Within a minute, I’m working with them to hunt for a back door.

Everything seems secure, but a green light flashes where it shouldn’t.

“Laney,” I say, drawing her attention toward it.

Mac laughs so hard he nearly falls out of his seat. “He must have had some serious amateurs on this, because that my friends, is the most obvious back door I have ever seen.”

“It could be a trap,” I say.

“With Adrik?” Mac says, shaking his head. “That man can hardly remember his Google password. He probably went onto the black market and hired a newbie to get it done. He has no respect for this skill.”

“Why’d you stay with him for so long?” Laney questions, not to be rude, just curious.

“The monster you know and all that jazz.”

In minutes we have erased the hits from all databases, and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

“Transition to phase two,” I say over the comms. Watching the cameras to see Evie making it to the outer circle of the airstrip, I signal Alexi to move.

He has been watching her tracker on his phone the entire time like an obsessed stalker, despite the fact that I have live feeds on all the drones. He claimed those cameras could be hacked, which they can’t, and that the tracker is the best way to know she is safe.

Evie climbs up the tree that Lizz is perched in and gets into position next to her with another rifle. We need her to stay put until phase four, she and Lizz are going to pick The Shades off one by one as the fires lead them straight to the open area in front of them.

“Laney, you can go. Mac and I will wrap up here.”

She stands and grabs her bow, then leans in to hug me before heading out the door. I smile after her, glad that she gets to be part of this and has the opportunity to serve a little justice of her own.

Mac and I quickly disable the hits, clearing everything from the servers. Then, we get to work taking all of The Shades funds and depositing them into Evie’s account. She is going to need money to keep this organization alive with those she trusts.

We have around twenty of them on our side and missions are not cheap. Assassins are thrifty fuckers, but they require a lot of training. And transportation costs are at an all time high.
