“Cute enough to kiss,” she whispered and leaned forward.

Her lips brushed against his tip with a quick peck. After a glance up to his eyes, she darted forward. Axur blew out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding when she took him into her mouth. As languid as their kiss became, she found a tantalizingly slow pace and bobbed in and out.

Axur needed more. His fingers twined through the hair at the back of her head. He held firm but stopped himself from pushing her pace. There was no need to rush. He wanted to enjoy every moment he could with her, as they couldn’t last.

Maudlin thoughts couldn’t find purchase in his mind at that moment. There was only him and Katie and right now. No past or future, just the present. He wanted to make the most of it.

Katie moaned with her mouth around his cock. She slipped a hand between her legs. Fingers slid up and down her folds in the same rhythm she continued to work his cock between her lips. He watched for as long as he could stand before he pulled her back.

“I need all of you,” he breathed.

Katie dropped back against the sheets and spread her legs wide. She crooked a finger in invitation. Axur dove in before she finished. For a moment, the urgency of their first encounter took him. Their lips met, and they rolled along the bunk.

Axur pushed himself up as she wrapped her legs around his back. He found her entrance and slid inside before their lips met again.

Another roll put Katie on top. She rode him, sitting high with a hand slapped against his chest. She was magnificent. He took her in, letting her control their pace for the moment. All moments end, though.

She dropped down on him, and they fell into another roll as their lips met. Back on top, he kept a quick pace, a double-time march. She shuddered, and her eyes rolled back in climax just before the pleasure overtook him.

Axur fell to the covers beside her, and she snuggled into the crook of his arm. He had never expected any of this in the life he’d chosen. As sleep took him, he wondered if a little chaos wasn’t worth it.

TWELVE

KATIE

Whenever she’d heard the term “floating on air,” she always thought it was so stupid and bordered on dramatic. Now, though, she understood. Katie caught herself humming as she made breakfast, and she’d twirled Ayla around a few times, too.

Everything about the world seemed brighter. It felt as though anything and everything was possible. Even Axur leaving for work couldn’t dampen her mood. Especially when memories from the night before were frequently at the forefront of her mind.

She’d never expected things to be so great between them. Hell, she hadn’t expectedanythingto be between them besides bitter animosity when she first arrived. And she cared for him so deeply that she’d almost dare to call it love. He was so much more than she’d ever imagined, and she adored him for it.

“You’re humming again,” Ayla said with a giggle. Katie’s cheeks heated a little when she realized she had probably been humming for a while now.

“Maybe today just feels like a humming day. Now pass me the sugar.” Katie tried to distract her.

They decided to make cookies today, and Ayla was already covered in flour. And though Katie didn’t have a mirror, she knew she wasn’t doing too much better. Not that she minded, however. In fact, it was half the fun of it.

Ayla passed her the sugar and Katie poured out what was needed into a measuring cup.

“You should add more,” Ayla encouraged.

Katie laughed. “Oh, really? What if it comes out too sweet?”

The girl shook her head. “There’s no such thing.”

“There is if you’re bouncing off the walls. Tell you what, as a compromise, I’ll let you lick the bowl when we’re done with it instead.”

Ayla tapped her chin, made a face very similar to Axur’s serious face, and pretended to think about it.

Katie chuckled. “And as a bonus, I’ll let you decorate them with those sprinkles we bought.”

A wide grin made its way onto the girl’s face. “Deal!”

Katie laughed and continued mixing the cookie dough. When the batter was thick, and the pan had gone into the oven, Ayla got her promised bowl.

A smile made its way onto the nanny’s face. Ayla had gotten so much better over the last few weeks. She wasn’t so shy anymore or took every step like she was intruding. Now, she acted exactly like she was supposed to. She acted like a kid.

Katie’s heart swelled with compassion for the young girl. She’d lost so much so quickly. No one deserved to have the world taken out from under them, especially a child. But Ayla had been so strong and brave, and slowly, she was moving on.
