Sutton:
Somehow, I doubt it’s the truth.
River:
Maybe there are other reasons I’d like to stay, but I need to think through them. The truth is that I’m not sure what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Sutton:
I know you don’t like to talk about your past, but can you tell me what you used to do?
River:
My dad’s shadow?
Sutton:
I’m almost sure that’s not a job position.
River:
Ever since Mom died, I started to intern in his company so I could keep an eye on him. I studied business and got a master’s so I could work for him full time. My office was right next to his and I didn’t have a title like Magnus.
Sutton:
So, Magnus also worked for the company.
River:
Yeah, he was groomed to become Dad’s replacement. I was just the spare—literally.
Sutton:
But you remained by his side?
River:
Someone had to look after the old man. My brothers didn’t care much for him, but I don’t blame them. He wasn’t very nice to them.
Sutton:
But he’s gone, and it’s time for you to live your life, isn’t it?
River:
Exactly why you shouldn’t count me out. I might just stay here.
Sutton:
Will you?
River:
What if I decide to go to college again? Would you move with me to a college town?
Sutton:
Why am I coming with you?
