River:

As a matter of fact, I’m having dinner while I text you.

Sutton:

Oh right, your brother feeds you.

River:

Want some food?

Sutton:

I’ll make myself something when I get home.

River:

Come over, I promise to be good to you while you wait for me.

Sutton:

I really have to work.

River:

Fine, but if you go to bed before I arrive, make sure you’re naked.

Sutton:

Naked, huh?

River:

Yep, I’ll wake you up nicely, promise.

Sutton:

Sounds encouraging.

River:

Oh, I promise it’ll be great  emoji

The doors to the library creak, announcing that someone is entering. I put my phone away and look up. I’m surprised to see Jez entering.

“You’re in the library?” My brows rise in surprise. “Who’s taking care of the bar?”

She rolls her eyes. “The Kershaw brothers. I need to have a serious chat with Finnegan Gil. It feels like these men are taking over the town.”

“The town or just your bar?” I shoot a skeptical look her way. Though she complains a lot, I’m starting to think she’s enjoying not only the attention, but also the fact that the place is finally growing and becoming all that she’s ever wanted for her grandfather’s old bar.

She sighs in exasperation. “Just my place. For some inexplicable reason, Gael has all his brothers working for ‘us,’ without any payment. I’m not sure what’s happening, but apparently he’s going through some kind of crisis, or loss and they want to be there for him.”

A frown tugs at the corners of my mouth as I try to decipher what could’ve happened to Gael. It must’ve been something very private since there’s no talk about it around town. My hands itch to reach for my phone so I can ask River, but I’d rather not. I don’t want Jez to know how close I’ve gotten to him. At least not yet.
