Excuse me?
Cal:
Sutton’s parents are coming soon. We can’t stop the bank from repossessing the house anymore.
River:
Thank you for the two weeks. Have you figured out if we can proceed with my plan?
Cal:
No, we have to talk to Finnegan. He’ll be here tomorrow morning.
River:
When should I expect her parents?
Cal:
I don’t know. Ansel just told me about it, he’s been out on a mission for days.
River:
So it could be tomorrow, huh?
Cal:
I would be prepared for that.
River:
I’ll skip work today so I can prepare her.

Sutton’s eyebrowsarch in surprise when the library door chimes softly, announcing my entrance. I saunter over to the counter where she’s diligently checking in books.
“You’re not working tonight?” she asks not glancing at me.
Pushing aside a stray lock of hair, I lean on the counter, narrowing the space between us and barely brushing a kiss on her temple. “Well, since I’m not actually on the schedule, I thought, why not take the day off? Especially when I could be spending it with my favorite woman.”
She flicks a playful glance at the clock hanging elegantly on the wall, a smirk tugging at her lips. “Seeing that it’s already six, I’m guessing our ‘day’ might just bethe night.”
Returning her smirk with one of my own, I lower my voice. “Clear your dirty mind, Miss Asher. Tonight, I’m taking you on a date.”
She feigns a pondering expression, tapping a finger on her chin. “To the bar and grill?” she tsks.“Been there, done that … last night Jez kicked us out for trying to use her closet, again.”
I chuckle softly. “Though you’re not wrong, it’ll be different.” I pause, raising a brow for emphasis. “I promise it’ll be exclusive.”
Her laughter fills the air. “Exclusive, huh?”
I nod.
“What’s so exclusive about it?”
“Gael will prepare something special, just for us,” I state and add, “We’ll be using the private room for the occasion.”
“You know, sometimes you do a lot for me. I don’t think you should be trying this hard,” she says in a gentle and friendly way.
