“Backstage. Now,” Bibi commanded.
Hannah grabbed my hand and we made a run for it while the melee grew.
Bibi fell into step with us, but Bjorn lingered, filming the fight that was growing in intensity. Wasn’t exactly sure why he was doing it, but I trusted there was a reason.
The guards opened the backstage door for us, slamming it quickly before the hunters were able to slip by. I set Hannah down, and she melted against my body, not letting me go. Her heart was pounding.
Protect her.
Finally, it was my own voice in my head. But it didn’t give me the relief I’d hoped for, because there was only one way to do that. And I didn’t want to make the situation worse.
“I’m sorry that happened,” she said. “Seriously, they make up videos all the time. There are whole websites dedicated to people who think they’ve seen you. They probably just lifted the footage from one of those sites. I wouldn’t worry about it.”
I kissed her, because that voice inside my head was trying to persuade me to do the right thing. But the more time I spent with this woman, the more dangerous it would be.
“You always see the bright side of any situation,” I said when I broke the kiss.
She scoffed. “Because I know you didn’t do it.”
“No, I didn’t. But my brother did.” I sighed.
Her slightly swollen lips formed an O. “Oh shit.”
Bibi was on her phone. She held up her finger and dropped the device into her bag. “What do you think the chances are of talking any sense into that beast of a brother?”
“Zero.”
She nodded. “The production office has already received their ransom note. They think we’ll pay to keep them from posting the video. Part of me wants to make it disappear. But it will only make the hunters more passionate about their cause—”
“You mean Lars had a target on his back,” Hannah said.
Bibi sighed. “Unfortunately, he will either way. The other concern is your brother. He’s a wild card we certainly didn’t plan on, and I’m not sure what our best course of action is. Normally, I’d offer protection, but I have a feeling that Leif won’t want our help.”
“You’ve read my brother beautifully.”
“What can I say? I know my way around a beast.” Bibi grinned. “It will make the rest of this episode a bit more complicated.”
“I hate that I didn’t stand there and fight.” I shook my head. “Don’t think that my running away will help my cause with any of those hunters, either.”
“I would’ve loved to see you kick some ass.” Hannah sighed. “But you kept your cool, and I won’t lie, it was sexy as hell.”
Tell her. Your life is so much different than hers. This can’t work.Ugh. I would’ve actually preferred my brother’s endless rants to my own inner voice, because at least I knew Leif was full of shit.
“What will your brother do when he finds out you could be punished for his actions?” Hannah asked.
“Find a way to make it worse, probably.”
Bibi tapped a finger against her chin. “Are you sure the two of you are the only sasquatches we could be dealing with?”
“I hope so.” It was Leif in that video without a doubt. But I had a sinking feeling that we weren’t the only ones, and I hoped to the moon that he hadn’t done something completely stupid.

My days of partying like a rock star were far from over, but they certainly had evolved. After escaping the skirmish that had erupted between the hunters and the metal heads that ended the show early, I was able to introduce Hannah and Lars to the guys in the band, and we decided to come back to my cabin for a nightcap.
