She sat back with a pout, paying close attention to the signs. He turned off the exit to Scarsdale, taking some short, winding roads. Finally, he brought the car to a stop in front of a large, empty parcel of land that was surrounded by other high end, custom built homes.

He got out of the vehicle, so she did the same.

“What’s this?” she asked, not sure why they were there.

He took both of her hands in his, his excitement tangible. “Thisis where we’re going to build our new home and start our future together.”

Skye’s mouth opened wide, because she knew that a piece of property like this had cost a small fortune, even if his real estate brother, Beck, had gotten him a deal.

Recently, they’d discussed the possibility of buying and relocating into a house, especially once the babies were born and they’d need more room for them to grow, but she honestly thought that decision would be a few years down the line.

“What do you think?” he asked, sounding anxious for her approval.

“I think this is an extravagant birthday present,” she said with a laugh but even she heard the happiness in her voice. “But yes, I love the area, andthe idea of building our own place together.”

Relief passed across his handsome features, before he exhaled a deep breath. “Then just one more thing before we start the building process.”

She tipped her head. “What’s that?”

He reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his expression softening as he stared at her. “I want to make an honest woman out of you before our babies are born, so they grow up knowing how much I love their mom,” he said, wearing his heart on his sleeve for her. “I want to marry you and make us official and take care of you for the rest of our lives. I need to know you’re mine, in every sense of the word. You’re the only woman I’ve ever wanted, and that’s never going to change.”

She was still reeling from the gift of land and his heartfelt words, when he reached into his pocket and pulled out a black velvet box, getting down on one knee on the asphalt. He popped open the box, and the setting sun shone off the stunning diamond ring nestled inside, leaving her speechless.

“So, Skye Abbott, will you marry me?”

So many emotions gathered in her throat, and she had to forcibly swallow them back, but her heart was soaring at the realization that all her dreams had come true. Tripp had waited so patiently for her, allowing her the time she needed to heal from the recent past so she could be a better woman for him.

Now, she was so ready to take this next step with him and be his wife and givehimher whole heart. “Yes,” she said with joy, extending her left hand for him to slide that gorgeous ring onto her finger. Happiness overflowed inside her. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you, Tripp Daniels.”

He slipped the ring on her finger, then stood back up and kissed her—hot and deep and packed with so much feeling she never wanted it to end. This man meant everything to her, and she was so grateful that they’d been given a second chance to get it right.
