“Beth? Are you alright, baby?”

Whooshing air and blackness washes over me.

CHAPTER 10

Cannon

“Tell me what the hell is wrong with her before I beat you up, asshole! Is she ok? What’s wrong? Why hasn’t she woken up?”

“Could someone shut off that light? It’s really fucking bright,” she whines.

“Baby,” I breathe, my heart finally beating again. I thought I was never going to take a full breath again, she scared me so damn bad.

“If you ever do that to me, I’m gonna paddle your ass until you can’t sit. You took ten fucking years off my life!”

Her smile is so damn gorgeous I’d forgive her anything though. As long as she always comes back to me.

“Hey, baby girl. How are you feeling?”

Her brows scrunch up and she sighs. “I don’t know. I do feel kind of funny. I have been for a few days now.”

The doctor eyes her and smiles. “Yeah. Babies will do that for you.”

I jerk my head up and stare at him, eyes wide. “What the fuck do you mean?”

He frowns. “She had bloodwork and it shows that she’s pregnant. Not very far along but she’s definitely pregnant.”

“Congratulations, you bastard!” Gage stands up from the other side of the room and crosses to stand in front of Beth. “How are you doing other than the mama issues?”

“I’m good, I think. What happened to Jesse?”

Gage chuckles. “Well, after I pulled Cannon’s ass of him he almost begged me to arrest him. I don’t think the idiot had any idea what kind of hell he was gonna get in for this stunt.”

She nods her head and pushes her hair out of her eyes and my heart clenches. I could have lost her. My only reason for being right now is her and I could have fucking lost her.

“I’m never letting you out of my sight,” I growl and reach out for her hand.

She glares up at me. “You aren’t going to wrap me up in cotton batting and try to keep me safe. I’ll do what I want, when I want to.”

The doctor laughs and then chokes when I turn to glare at him. “I’d say she’s doing just fine. But she could still use some rest so go bug someone else.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m her fiancé.”

She grunts and glares at me. “You didn’t ask me.”

“I’m not gonna either. You’re fucking marrying me or I’m gonna haul your ass out of here and find the first justice of the peace I can find and lock your little fine ass down.”

“Humph! As if! You’re not marrying me because we’re having a baby.Ifwe’re even having a baby. Maybe the test is wrong. Stuff like that happens all the time,” she huffs.

I glance over at the doc and he shakes his head. “It’s not wrong.”

“I’m still not marrying you just because I’m pregnant. I intend to marry the love of my life.”

“Me,” I growl. “I’m the love of your life, dammit! I’ve been telling you that forever. Hell, I’m the one that wanted to take youbare! Cause I wanted you knocked up to tie you to me. Cause as soon as I saw that picture you sent me, I knew you were my one.”

Her eyes widen and she stares at me like I’ve grown wings. “No…”

“Yes. I did everything but in vitro to make sure to knock you up. I want you big and round with my baby. I want to watch you all glowing and happy and know that I’m the one that put that pretty smile on your face even as you carry my baby. I want you. All of you and I always will. You’re never gonna get rid of me, baby girl. I will hunt you down if you try and run from me.”
