Of course, it was Hugh. His cologne today was musky and sweet. I somehow managed to keep my hands off him as he steadied me.
“In a hurry?” His voice did things to me. I bit my lip, knowing that he didn’t mean it the way that my body was interpreting it. Not after this morning.
“A little,” I admitted.
He was quiet and so was I. I didn’t know what to say and as much as I willed my feet to walk away, I couldn’t do it.
Finally looking up to meet his eyes, it was clear that Hugh felt the same way. Something unspoken was flowing between us—
“Deeds!” The screech came from the front door, and Hugh lifted a quizzical brow while I covered my face.
“How did she get up here?” I muttered, turning to see Cleo half-dancing toward me with a bashful Bill walking behind her.
“Bill,” Hugh said, nodding.
Bill, the security guard from downstairs, half-waved, probably because what he’d done was totally against the rules. He looked between us and his eyebrows went up. I rolled my eyes as he laughed.
Cleo wobbled a bit. She’d clearly started drinking without me. She caught sight of Hugh and her smile nearly split her face in two. Double shit.
“Hey Bill, I’ve got her, thanks for bringing her up,” I said, grabbing Cleo’s hand and dragging her next to me.
“She’s very persistent,” Bill said, starting to walk backward. “Have a lovely night, ladies. And Hugh.” Bill winked as he left.
I turned to see Cleo staring at Hugh.
“Yahweh.” Cleo tilted up her chin.
I nearly choked on my spit, and I squeezed her hand tight, my eyes going wide as I looked at her.
“Cleo,” Hugh said, smiling wide. I could hear the laughter and arrogance in his voice.I sighed.
“We were just on our way out.”
Shoving Cleo, I tried to make a hasty exit, but she didn’t budge. She handed me the cute flowery flask instead and I took a drink.
It wasn’t until the liquid sloshed around in my stomach that I remembered it was empty. Good, that made it easier.
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” The look in her eye told me that she did indeed hope she was interrupting something.
Hugh turned to look at me, his gaze was hooded and scalding.
“Nothing that we can’t finish at a later time.”
Heat crept up my neck as I bit my lip. Nope. I moved the flask back to my lips.
Cleo snatched it from me and took a long, exaggerated swig, while Hugh stepped forward, grabbing my bag from my hand and slowly sliding it up to my shoulder.
Leaning close, he whispered, “Be a good little menace, I’d hate to have to punish you later.”
Warmth pooled low in my stomach as I squeaked before I could stop the sound from escaping my lips.
“Don’t keep her out too late, it’s a school night.” Hugh winked before turning and sauntering back to his office.
“Bitch, are you blushing?” Cleo half-whispered. “AmIblushing?”
I didn’t look, I just watched as Hugh’s round ass bounced back into his office like he didn’t just leave a pool in my panties. Little Menace… And I thought I liked being called a good girl.
Fuck me.
