“That’s a great idea. And you can leave him a note that it’s from you and then maybe he’ll come talk to you.”

I shake my head. “No, that’s not why I’m doing this. I know my window of opportunity with Liam has closed. This isn’t so he’ll forgive me, this is just for him. It’s to hopefully ease the nerves he must be feeling.” I pull myself up into a sitting position. “How do I get it to him though? There’s no way they’re going to let me on set.”

“Hmm, can you leave it with security?”

“No, they’ll just toss it out.”

“What about Olivia? You guys became friends, right?”

Olivia. Now there’s an idea. “That might work. Except I’m sure she’s taken Liam’s side in all of this. Why wouldn’t she?”

“Worth the shot.” Penn picks up my phone that’s near my pillows. “Message her and see.”

I send out a silent thanks to the fact Olivia and I exchanged numbers as I type a quick note and push send.

“Alright, let’s hope for a miracle.”

My life might feel like a dumpster fire right now, but turns out there was a miracle in store for me after all. A couple hours later my phone lights up with an incoming message.

My heart leaps in my chest when I see who sent me the private message.

Olivia: Hey Carter! It’s so good to hear from

That’s all that is displayed on my home screen and I quickly click on the message to read the whole thing.

Olivia: Hey Carter! It’s so good to hear from you! I know you and Liam had a falling out, but I think it’s sweet you want to send him something for good luck. I’ve been on the bad end of the tabloids plenty of times, usually all filled with lies, so I know what you’re going through. Let me know what you’re thinking and we can meet up.

I can’t believe Olivia is willing to help me. She’s going to be my own personal fairy godmother, working her magic for me.

We message back and forth for a few minutes, working out the details. After the plans are made, I toss my phone on my bed and run downstairs.

“Hey Mom?” I call towards where she’s at in the living room with Dad. “Can I use some of the bananas and milk to make a pie?”

“Yeah, sure honey, go ahead.”

When I go back into the kitchen Penn is leaning against the counter scrolling on her phone. “What did you say the pie was called again?”

“Banoffee pie.”

Penn studies her phone for a minute before sliding it across the counter to me. “There you go. There’s a recipe for it.”

I pick up her phone and take it with me as I start to pull the necessary ingredients out.

“Ugh, I don’t have any cream.” I open the pantry again, even though I’ve already checked it twice.

“I’m sure my mom does.” Penn jumps off the barstool. “I’ll go and check.”

Penn nearly runs out of the house as I start working on a graham cracker crust.

Penn comes back almost twenty minutes later with the cream, chocolate shavings for the top of the pie, and a white pastry box.

“Here, my mom has these boxes I thought would be perfect to deliver the pie in.”

“Penn,” I take it from her. “This is perfect. I can find the logo for Arabella’s Bakery and make it look like it’s a delivery from there. He’ll love that.”

“Here,” she hands me the cream. “You work on the whipped cream and I’ll work on the box. What’s the name of the bakery again?”

The next morning I leave for school earlier than normal so I can go meet Olivia at the security checkpoint for the set. She has to arrive early for hair and makeup and I want Liam to get the Banoffee pie before they shoot, so the timing works perfectly.
