Tate threw up her hands. “Where are you going?”

“I have a meeting. Keep me posted on Mimi!”

“I never said it was her!” Tate hollered, but I didn’t answer.

I didn’t need to. We both knew the truth.

As soon as I got inside, I ducked into one of the bathrooms and locked the door behind me.

Once again, Attorney Finley appeared on my screen.

“My client was unhappy with the amount of detail you provided to our point of contact this morning,” she said. “Moving forward, we will be having these exchanges directly. I’m sending you a secure link to a form—please upload more specific information regarding this matter and then hit ‘submit.’”

She blinked at the screen. “And Mrs. Windsor, please be advised that my client is frustrated with you. So you best be more diligent. Good day.”

The screen went dark, and I shivered.

The link popped up and I clicked on it. The subject line readPersonal Information, and then there was space to write in the details.

I took a deep breath, weighing my options.

Gene was against me, but he wanted to use me to maintain control over his family.

Mimi was against me, and she wanted to humiliate me, infiltrate the family, and take revenge against the Windsors.

They were both bad. But who was worse? That was a question I couldn’t answer just yet.

I needed to tell the truth, but how much of it? I wanted to ensure my actions didn’t make it worse for anyone—like my brother, my husband, and myself. Even though she’d threatened me, I didn’t want to make it any worse for Tate, either.

I started writing.

I don’t know much about Tate except that she didn’t just bump into Colby by accident. Someone hired her. Someone is paying her to be here, to watch the family.

I took another deep breath.

I believe it was Mimi Jones.

Then:I believe we can use this to our advantage.

I hit submit and wondered, not for the first time, just what the hell I’d gotten myself into.

Daphne accostedme before we left for the Bar Harbor airport. “What do you mean you’re leaving again?”

“It’s just for the weekend,” I explained. “Bryce needs to be down at headquarters, and he wanted me to go with him. It’ll look good for me to support him as he takes on a more public role. At least, that’s what Olivia Jensen said.”

The truth was, I couldn’t care less about the PR angle—I just wanted to be with my husband! Not to mention to get a break from the pit of vipers that surrounded me on MDI.

She put her hands on her hips. “Are you sure that’s what you should be doing right now? Aren’t you supposed to be, I don’t know, minding your business around here? Keeping an eye on things—like Tate?”

“Tate’s a person, not a thing.”

“Are you sure about that?” Daphne arched her eyebrow. “And did you find out anything else about her?”
