I turn toward my daughter and see her sleeping soundly. Only gentle whispers of air leaving her mouth.

Turning back to Oliver, I ask, “I still don’t know why you’re in my bed.”

“I never got to sleep with you the first time.”

“The only time,” I interrupt.

He grins, just like the cocky hockey player he is. “Maybe this time we’ll spend more time with foreplay.”

My eyes are wide as I cough. I slam my hand over my mouth, slowly releasing it and whispering, “You’re so full of yourself.”

His hand sweeps over my lip, removing a piece of hair that is covering my mouth. The act is gentle, but the shiver that it invokes through me certainly isn’t.

“You know you like me. Despite what happened with Adam...”

“And us.”

He smirks again, and I want to knock that grin off his face. “At least you’re accepting there is an us.”

“I didn’t say that. And there isn’t. I got over you years ago.”

“At least it was memorable if it took you any time at all to get over me.”

“You obviously didn’t give me a second thought. Not even to let me know the condom broke.”

“I think when you tore the packet open, it must’ve damaged it somehow.”

“So it’s my fault I ended up pregnant.”

He looks at Holly and back at me. “Do you regret her?”

I sigh. “That’s not the point.”

“Answer the question.”

“You’re bossy.”

“You’re beautiful. Even when you’ve just woken up. Even when you’re angry with me...”

I swallow. “No, I don’t regret her,” I answer because his words are going too deep.

He smiles. “Me neither. I only regret one thing.”

I purse my lips, waiting for him to tell me off for not finding him and letting him know.

“That I never got to see it. You carrying our baby, and...” He pauses, looking at Holly. “Helping you.”

I suck back a gasp, choking out, “I had my mom, my friends, and Harrison to help me through it. I wasn’t alone.”

“Harrison?” The single word sounds like a choke. “Who’s Harrison?”

I should tell him right now that Harrison is my best friend, but this cocky hockey god thinks he can get whatever he wants, including me.

“He’ll be here anytime now, so I’d appreciate you getting out of my bed.”
