“Your next meeting time is in three days, right? That’s our only chance to finally end this.We have to prepare very hard for this,” Levi commented.
“Yeah, we can’t mess this up at all.Alpha Timothy, someone will teleport into your room to get the teleportation orbs tonight so we can get the destination address.Another person will visit you to remove the hold of the oath you had to make.”Daddy Keane, who was also on the call with us, informed Alpha Timothy before we ended the call.
Before the next morning, Uncle Doyle, the biggest teleportation orb expert in the Supernatural Council, tested the teleportation orbs, determined that tampering with the glowing orb was impossible, and copied the destination location on it onto his destination-free orbs.
Unfortunately, the next morning, before the Supernatural Council could start building the team that would go on the mission to retrieve the witch and her handler, everything went to hell for the Supernatural Council.
Levi had returned to the Supernatural Council, so I’d gone to bed the previous night with Caden, Aiden, and Mateo. The next morning when I woke up, Caden, Aiden, and Mateo had gone to their rooms to get ready before we met again at our table. After getting a tray of food from the never-ending buffet of breakfast choices, I went to our breakfast table which was very busy because a few people from other packs including Julian, the future Beta of my pack, started having their meals with us since the bonfire party.
I didn’t notice anything while getting my breakfast, but it became apparent that something had happened when I got to our table and everyone was staring at their phones without touching their meals.
The things I heard from Caden’s phone as I sat between him and Aiden were even more outrageous.“Several witnesses at this year’s first Alphas Forum, which is a morning gathering involving the Alphas and future Alphas from member packs of the Alphas Congress, say that it was quite terrifying to all of them when the pack observer of the Harrison pack teleported into the hall right behind the Late Alpha of the Harrison Pack, God bless his soul, like a coward and stabbed him in the back.”
“An Alpha who wanted to remain anonymous told us that, afterward, the Crawford Pack Alpha didn’t allow the Mac Tire City law enforcement or the Alphas Congress to deal with the matter by themselves.Rather, for unknown reasons, Alpha Owen of the Crawford Pack had invited the Supernatural Council to investigate the matter. Our contact calls that decision on Alpha Owen’s part a poorly conceived one as it gave the Supernatural Council the chance to manipulate the available evidence to pin the fault on the deceased Alpha and justify the actions of the pack observer who had committed the murder.”
The first news presenter stopped speaking and the second news presenter beside her continued, “Another Alpha, who also wanted to remain anonymous, told the Supernatural World News that he became more appalled by the pack observer program when several Alphas started sharing some of the horrific misbehaviors of their pack observers as well as the various ways pack observers have undermined their authority and interfered with their ability to rule over their packs. The Alphas Congress has disclosed that it just sent the third appeal to the United Nations, Tyate Organization, and Supernatural Council, requesting a meeting to discuss the repeal of the Pack Observer Law after all the organizations involved rejected the first two appeals. Now let’s listen to what Mr.Corrigan, our news correspondent who is already at the Lannigan Hotel and Resorts where this year’s Alphas Congress is taking place, has to say about this matter.”
A man wearing a suit with his back to the front door of the Lannigan Hotel’s reception hall appeared on the camera and started speaking.“This is very appalling.I had the opportunity to watch the footage of that pack observer teleporting behind the Alpha of the Harrison pack and stabbing him from behind. That’s the most dishonorable behavior among werewolves. And the way he kept stabbing Alpha Dean?Unacceptable!I have nothing against the Pack Observer Law, but this was a wake-up call that while Alphas can be bad, pack observers can be just as terrifying.”
I looked up from Caden’s phone into Mateo’s eyes with wide, surprised eyes because I was still shocked about what I’d heard.I didn’t need to ask questions because what was happening was obvious. The leaders of the Alphas Congress were trying to use public opinion to force the Supernatural Council to repeal the Pack Observer Law.We’d expected them to send appeals, but we didn’t expect them to try to use public opinion the way they’d chosen to.
In the Alphas Forum meeting that followed breakfast, several news agencies were invited and many more Alphas stood up boldly to share their ‘experiences’ with pack observers and get some publicity for their packs and themselves.
* * *
After the Alphas Forum ended, I went for a private Supernatural Council meeting in Caden’s study. The high-profile participants of this meeting showed how much this event had been blown out of proportion by the Alphas Congress’s attempts at using public opinion to get their way.
“Plans have changed.”Daddy Keane, who had only been taking part in this case in the background, was pushed to the forefront.“We can’t transport the handler or the witch or something might happen to them on the way to the Supernatural Council. Many Supernatural Council members belong to several packs and we’re not sure who might have been compromised, so we’re going to have to do this ourselves.”
“How bad has public opinion gotten, Victoria?”Aunt Ciara asked.
“Very bad ma’am.There are people organizing protests against the Supernatural Council.”Victoria replied, sitting straighter than she’d ever done at our meetings.
“The United Nations has sent signed documentation approving the meeting to hear the Alphas Congress’s opinions on the repeal of the Pack Observer Law in the next five days.I had no choice but to sign it and Diane says the Tyate Organization has also signed it.It will have arrived in the hands of the Alphas Congress’s leadership by tomorrow morning. We have to move fast and we have to make sure that we can find all the parties involved in this matter before that meeting,” Uncle Tariq, the current head of the Supernatural Council, said.
“Ciara, any ideas on how to go about this operation without alerting the organization behind the witches?”My mom asked.
“We’re going to need some help from Doyle and Imogen but here’s my plan right now.”Aunt Ciara shared an overview of her barely sketched-out but somewhat effective plan that had me nodding away like a hen pecking at rice.
“Does Aurora have to go?Can’t we get someone else to do the mind reading?”Daddy Aisling asked.
“No, we need Aurora’s instinctual magic to get the handler and the witch to tell us everything they know. There’s no one else we can trust.”Daddy Keane insisted.
“Then she’ll need someone to protect her. This is going to be her first mission on a potential battlefield.”Daddy Reece said.
“Dad, I can protect myself.”I protested.
“I’ll be her shadow,” Levi said, ignoring me.
“Do we need someone else to protect her?Like the Caden boy?”Nina asked.
“No.One shadow is enough.Although we’re very grateful for their help on this case, we can’t involve the members of the Crawford Pack in such an important battle.”Aunt Ciara rejected the idea.
“Alright,” Nina agreed.
“I’ll fine-tune the plan with Tariq and Keane and then we’ll have a debriefing this evening on the full plan.”Aunt Ciara said.
“Good.”Daddy Keane said while everyone else nodded.
