It was tough to keep a straight face when I could hear the bitterness and pain in her voice and see them in her eyes, from which tears couldn’t stop flowing.

But she was a tough woman, and she quickly controlled her emotions.“I heard that the Supernatural Council helps people. Can you help my friends?I have hurt people, so there’s no need to help me, but everyone else, they were forced.Just ...just push their crimes on me.Help them regain their freedom. Can you help us?”

It was my mom who answered her.“We’ll help you and your people, both here and in the tribes on the fringe areas of Africa and Europe, but we’re going to need your help to set the people locked within the organization free. Can you help us find the location they’re keeping your friends at?Can you remember any distinctive landmarks?Or can you share any information about the setting?”

It took an hour and a half for Njeri to tell us everything she knew.By then, I was beyond exhausted, but everyone else wasn’t.

Because of how delicate the situation was, the raid on the compound where the Notebook Organization kept Njeri’s people had to be executed immediately.

Using my ability to see people’s memories through touch and Daddy Keane’s mind-reading magic, we pieced together Njeri and her handler’s memories and figured out the location of the compound where Njeri’s people were forced to live. Then Uncle Brogan and Aunt Ciara, the two commanders in our team, gathered their finest and most trustworthy subordinates for an impromptu raid.

Everything happened fast after that.I returned to the Supernatural Council with Levi, Njeri, and her handler while everyone else went to rescue Njeri’s people.

Within three hours, they were back teleporting several women and two boys with dark skin and gray eyes.As soon as they arrived, Njeri’s people were kept in a safe house in the Supernatural Council’s headquarters, surrounded and protected by only the most trusted members of the Supernatural Council.

After they’d eaten and rested, we started interrogating them.Because my magic reserves were wiped out and I could no longer help with the interrogation, I was sent back to Mac Tire City to rest.

But I went with a smile. With all the evidence we’d found, the Notebook Organization was now a verified criminal organization, rather than one that straddled various legal and ethical gray areas and could not be directly confronted by the Supernatural Council.

The Alphas Congress’s attempt to repeal the Pack Observer Law was also impossible as we took testimonies from Njeri and her friends on the Alphas they’d worked for and tried to find CCTV footage that correlated with them. The best part was that the witch who had compelled Alpha Dean’s pack observer was Njeri’s cousin, and she agreed to testify if needed.

Aurora

The morning of the Alphas Congress’s meeting with the United Nations and several representatives from the supernatural organizations, I woke up to the morning sun filtering into the room and casting light and shadows over myself and three of my mates through the curtains in Caden’s room.

My face was nestled against Aiden’s chest while Caden, whom Mateo was spooning, was spooning me from behind.

After separating Aiden and I’s intertwined fingers, I pulled Caden’s arm from around my waist and lightly jumped out of bed.A glance at the digital clock on the bedside table showed that I had woken up ahead of the alarm we set for the day.

When I turned around, I couldn’t help chuckling when Caden moved closer to Aiden and pressed his nose into the side of Aiden’s neck only to pull away with a frown on his face before burying his face in the part of the pillow that I’d laid on.It was funny yet endearing how he could recognize my scent in his sleep.

I decided not to wake my mates up so they could get some more sleep before the alarm went off.

I couldn’t go back to sleep so I threw Caden’s long hoodie over the shorts and cropped top I’d gone to bed in and then walked back to my room.

When I got out of the shower, Levi, who had returned from the Supernatural Council, was seated on my bed, texting someone while watching me as I glammed up for the very important meeting that was going to take place today. After hesitating for a second, I decided to take my necklace with shield orbs attached to it, which my mom had ordered me to wear every day since I was kidnapped by Nyra and rescued.

After dressing up, my mates and I met at our usual table to eat. While the other tables were bustling with tension and excitement, the mood at our table was solemn because everyone thought the Pack Observer Law was going to be repealed today.

We’d set everything up to look like that was what was going to happen.Only select members of the Supernatural Council, including the members of the Inner Council, knew that the Supernatural Council had compiled several pieces of evidence to ensure the rejection of the Alphas Congress’s request to repeal the Pack Observer Law.Even the United Nations and most of the Tyate Organization’s representatives had no idea.

There was also a contrast in people’s responses to the possible repeal of the law. Most humans who had never lived under or near the tyranny of unsupervised packs hoped that Alphas would get justice and full control over their packs again.Regular werewolves were panicking at the idea of Alphas regaining unsupervised control over their packs again, and several future Alphas and Alphas were delighted at the idea.

I knew there would be future Alphas watching for any sign of triumph on my face to gauge if the Supernatural Council would be able to counterattack against the Alphas Congress’s repeal request, so I maintained a solemn expression as I got my breakfast and started eating.

It was only when I got to my seat and lowered my head to sip some of my matcha tea that I allowed my lips to curl into a tiny smile at the shock that would appear on several Alpha’s faces when the Supernatural Council rejected their appeal with evidence.

However, just as anticipation for the storm of reactions from various Alphas started bubbling within me, the atmosphere changed.

A sudden, bone-chilling tension snaked its way into the air, suffocating the room.My eyes widened as I turned to see a group of men, their figures shrouded in ominous darkness, bursting into the restaurant.Their hands gripped deadly weapons, casting an immediate pall of fear over the previously tranquil atmosphere of the restaurant. The air crackled with danger, and my matcha tea was forgotten, replaced by a surge of adrenaline as I prepared for the unexpected chaos about to unfold.

“All hands up.If your hands are still down in the next five seconds, you’re dead.”The leader of the group warned, proving that he was serious by shooting several of the security operatives who ran into the restaurant behind his group. He also shot a restaurant staff behind the counter who was creeping out of the restaurant through the door to the kitchen, leaving a burning hole where her heart used to be.

As soon as we all saw the burning holes left behind by the attacker’s guns, we raised our hands in the air quickly as prompted.

“Nobody try to be a hero.Just keep your hands raised and keep your mouths shut.”
