“And why would we do that?”Brogan asked, now looking much calmer as he stared at Santiago.
“Because that’s the only reason I will tell you everything I know. And don’t think you could find out the truth by reading my mind, I took mind-blocking lessons for several years to learn how to block mind-reading even in my sleep. As for truth serums, as you can see, the organization I work for has made exceptional technological developments that allow them to change the DNA of high-ranking staff to prevent truth serums from working on us.”
Everything he was saying made him more and more valuable by the second. If there was an organization training people like Santiago Chavez who didn’t mind abducting and killing people to get what they wanted, the Supernatural Council had to find out everything we could about them as soon as possible.
“We could wait for Aurora to get out of the hospital?”I asked, glancing at Tariq, who was standing beside me, staring at the monitors intently.
“No, we don’t know what kind of changes were made to his DNA and how contact between him and Aurora would affect either of them.Keane, ask if that’s all he wants.”Tariq said.
Keane cleared his throat.“And that’s all you want?”
“Yeah.I’ll tell you everything you want to know after signing a blood contract with you, Keane Galway, and the leader of the Supernatural Council.”He said.
Keane and Brogan glanced at each other as everyone in the control room also glanced at Tariq.
Tariq leaned forward to press a button beside the microphone. The button allowed sound to be transmitted to the earpiece in Keane and Brogan’s ears.“Keane, tell him that we can’t sign such a contract with him if he doesn’t serve a prison term for his crimes.”
Keane repeated his words and Santiago stared straight at the two-way mirror.“Fine, but you have to reduce my sentence fairly based on the value of the information I will provide you with.”
Tariq was quiet for a few minutes, obviously considering this matter. The Inner Council members in the control room all said a few words advising against signing such a contract.
“Let’s do it.”Tariq’s voice was decisive.“We can’t allow an illegal organization that has the ability and resources to change people’s DNAs just to make truth serums void and develop weapons like laser rifles to continue to grow secretly.”
His reasoning quieted the other members of the Inner Council.Within thirty minutes, a contract was drafted and signed with blood by Santiago Chavez, Keane, and Tariq, the head of the Supernatural Council.
It was only then that Santiago started speaking.
“They sent us to abduct Aurora Byrne to prevent the Supernatural Council from listing the Notebook Organization as a criminal organization.According to the organization’s plans, we were always going to be the good guy so that if the world turned to shit, we would be everyone’s hero. When the organization got a tip from one of Aurora Byrne’s friends, Charlotte Summers, who was trying to buy her way out of the organization, about her relationship with Keane Galway, they saw hope for damage control.”
He smirked and continued speaking, “Unfortunately for the Notebook Organization, this was the chance I’d been waiting for these past few years to get out of the organization.I’ve already spent thirty-nine years working for them and climbing up the ranks, yet I don’t even have a chance at retirement. So I gave Keane’s daughter a chance to avoid getting abducted.Thankfully, she took it.”
Keane’s face darkened for a second but he quickly concealed his emotions and asked, “What about the witches you brought into the country and the pack observers they compelled who also lost their lives?”
“Listen, I’m not a member of the department in charge, but I know that the goal of the organization for the witches was unrelated to pack observers. The organization’s decision to help Alphas compel pack observers was just a side business to boost our finances and whoever suggested it is probably living in a world of hurt right now, if they’re not already dead.”He chuckled as if the idea of someone getting tortured and killed for an idea was greatly amusing.
“The witches and their compulsion magic were meant to be used against bigger players in authority, like the heads of states of certain countries, heads of influential organizations, and some key supernaturals. The Notebook Organization has been very careful to avoid getting on the Supernatural Council or any other Supernatural Organization’s radar, including the Tyate Organization.Who would have thought that a side business would make the organization enter your list of criminal organizations?”
There was silence in the room as we all processed the information we’d received.
Santiago seemed eager to prove his worth by telling us more shocking information as he asked, “You’re not going to ask about the organization’s goals?Their plans?”
“Answer this question first. How far has the Notebook Organization gone in terms of their research and technological developments?”Keane asked.
“Very far. They’ve even made contact with other worlds.”
At his words, an involuntary gasp escaped my lips as I took in a harsh, deep breath.
“I don’t know much about their technological development because I don’t belong to that department. What I do know is that the Notebook Organization is preparing for war and domination, but not against the Supernatural Council.According to what I’ve learned, the two worlds we’ve successfully communicated with have been devastated by a war with an enemy they call Shadow Monsters who invade their worlds through Ley Lines, bringing war and destruction if they’re not given unrestricted access to the world’s energy resources and enslaving them if they’re granted access to their world’s energy. The Notebook Organization knows that the Supernatural Council will fight them if they come to our world. The current aim of the Notebook Organization is to grow stronger and become a formidable force that would take over the world after all the other supernatural organizations, including the Supernatural Council, have used all their resources to fight the invaders when they come to our world.”
“Well, damn.”One of the Inner Council members muttered.
Although we were all silent, we also wanted to say the same thing.
One of the council members at the interrogation, the head librarian whose instinctual magic was said to give him a special sixth sense concerning events of the past, present, and future, stared at Tariq with eyes burning with enthusiasm.“Tariq, I have a feeling that the shadow monster invaders may be related to the Black Ace Sect and their Alien Leader.”
At his words, Tariq’s brows furrowed as he leaned over the control console table, deep in thought.
“Okay, this is what we’re going to do.”He started, turning to the head of the Supernatural Council’s technical department.“Arwyn, change his identity. We’re moving him to a special safe house that only I have the coordinates for.Brogan, stay with him.Keane and Levi, go back to Aruthia and keep me posted on how Aurora is doing.I’ll handle everything from here.”
