I stand up and bring her hip toward me as I fuck her hard. I come shortly after with my head thrown back. I throw myself over on the couch, and I hear Emma make a barely audible sound.
“Oof.” She tries to push me off. I wiggle around and get her on top of me, bringing her up to my body to kiss her.
“Can you taste yourself on my tongue, Emma?” She sucks on my tongue, and I swear I will come again. “My dirty little thief.” I kiss down her neck and suck. I am leaving yet another mark on her body. She swats at me.
“Those better go away before we go to Mexico and see my uncle and cousins,” she says playfully, moving her hair to one side.
“Oh, please. You think they don’t know we have sex? Are we going to be in separate rooms there too?” I ask playfully, but they better not do that to us. We are engaged, for fuck’s sake.
She laughs. “I don’t think so, but we might need to get everything in before we go. In case we don’t have sex while we are there. It will feel weird to have sex in my uncle's house,” she says poutily. I slap her on the ass and she yelps.
“Maybe I’ll take that sweet ass of yours there at your uncle’s house, huh, baby?” I laugh, and she shudders. “You'd like that, wouldn’t you, sweetheart?” I kiss her neck and travel up until I kiss her on the mouth. I move us to get up. “Come on, let's go shower and grab something to eat. I want to hear all about the good parts of your shopping trip.” I lift her, and we head to the bedroom. I feel a little better but can’t help feeling like a rogue wave lurks in the heavy seas, waiting to uproot our lives any moment.
CHAPTER 36
Emma
“Iknow, Adrian.” I roll my eyes as Eduardo looks at me in amusement. “I am so excited to see you, too.”
“How long is your layover? I wanted to make sure I wasn’t late to pick you up.”
I hand the airline worker my phone so that she can scan my boarding pass. “We are just boarding the plane and will be there soon.” Eduardo takes my bag from my hand so that I can finish up my conversation with Adrian.
“I hate that you guys had such a long layover and couldn’t drive.”
I pause, knowing the reason why we couldn’t drive, and try to put Julian out of my mind, so that I may enjoy the holidays without him taking up space in my head.
“I know it sucks. We have to travel through Dallas and then fly from Dallas to Mexico. It is so stupid. One would think the international airport here could give us a direct flight. At least it was less than an hour’s flight up to Dallas,” I agree with him, and Eduardo rolls his hands in a circle, subtly telling me through hand gestures that I need to ‘wrap up’ the phone call as we take our seats on the plane.
“Yep, see you soon. Tell Tio I love him and will see him soon too. Bye.” I hang up without allowing Adrian to reply and look at Eduardo, who is smiling at me.
“What?” I ask, and he gives me a bigger smile.
“Nothing. It’s just cute watching you interact with your cousin. He seems so possessive of you. He cares.” He shrugs.
“Yes, and I can’t wait to see the rest of my cousins too. Are you ready for the Spanish Inquisition?”
He laughs. “Hm. I’m not sure. Do you mean unifying our families or using brutal methods to cause widespread suffering?”
He arches his eyebrows up in question.
I, on the other hand, bend over laughing. Wiping the tears from my eyes, he looks at me with his chocolate-brown eyes, humor alight in his smile. It causes the dimple that is usually hidden to make a guest appearance, and my heart melts. This is how it should always be between us. The way we fit so perfectly together—the ease of our relationship. One day, it will always be like this. I lean over and give him a chaste kiss.
“It might be a little of both. Are you up for the challenge?” I hold my hand on his cheek, and his smile displays his beautiful white teeth, showing me the tiniest of gaps that I have been fixated on since we were kids.
I remember a conversation about it when he said he would get braces to close the slight gap on his front teeth all the way, and I told him not to because I loved it so much. It was quirky and unique. He smiled bashfully at me and looked away. I kept staring at him, wondering what he was thinking of at that time. I loved him then when I didn’t understand the concept at such a young age.
“Of course, baby. I wouldn’t expect anything less.”
My phone vibrates, pulling me away from our conversation. I notice a message from my online chat group. I’ve been chattingwith other fans of my favorite band that are also going to the concert in a few months. Excitement builds as we all wait for the day to get here; some talk about what they are wearing, making me think about what I will wear. I want to find a blue sequined jacket to put over my tank top. While thinking about that, I can feel Eduardo looking at me.
“Who are you chatting with?” Concern is etched on his face.
“Oh.” I look at him and show him my phone. “Just some people who are also attending the concert we are going to. The fan page is an excellent way to meet other people and sometimes meet up at the shows.”
Eduardo raises his eyebrows at me. He disapproves of this as I notice he stiffens in his seat. I immediately feel uncomfortable and remind myself that he isn’t Julian.
“Are you sure it’s safe, Emma? I mean, you don’t know these people, do you?” He looks down at my phone and then back up at me. I know he only wants to keep me safe. He only uses controlling behavior with me when it is in the bedroom, and there is not a complaint from me on that front.
