Matty’s makeup.

I’d never seen him with a bare face before. Even if it was just a touch of mascara or lip gloss, he always had something on.

My temper rose. Only the memory of my visit with Jeremy kept me calm. He’d paid for his idiotic sentiments.

Now I just had to make sure Matty knew that was what they were—idiotic sentiments from a cunt who didn’t deserve to breathe the same air as him.

Chapter 6

Matty

“How’d the date go?”

I mustered a smile at Riley’s question. “It was…okay.”

Riley, Ethan, Lucky and I were grouped around a table in the canteen. Having started his degree a few weeks ago, Lucky was now a fixture on days when his schedule aligned with ours. On days when it didn’t, Dagon or Dimitri would join him so he wasn’t alone. More often than not, it was both of them.

Imagine having boyfriends who cared so much about you that they’d interrupt their day to make sure you weren’t lonely during your breaks.

It was something I yearned for, even if I knew I shouldn’t.

Normally we’d eat our lunch out in the quad, but the rain had put paid to that. We didn’t have long before our next seminar, so it wasn’t surprising that they’d got straight down to business.

“Okay?” Riley chimed in, one eyebrow raised. “Oh god, that means it was a disaster.”

For the first time since I’d left Sebastian the night before, a real laugh left me. “What makes you say that?”

My three friends exchanged a look before Riley elaborated. “You never say anything is just okay.”

I shrugged a shoulder, fiddling with the crust of my sandwich. “It was okay…until it wasn’t.”

All three of them began to speak at once.

“What did he do?”

“Did he hurt you?”

“Are you okay?”

I laughed off their concern. “It’s fine. He wasn’t very kind.”

Lucky’s face was thunderous. “Want me to sic Dagon or Dimitri on him?”

“No, it’s okay,” I said softly. “It took a bit of a turn, but by sheer coincidence, Sebastian was there. He overheard part of the conversation and told the guy to leave.”

Lucky’s brows were in his hairline. “Sebastian stepped in to help?”

“Wait, who’s Sebastian?” Riley asked. Ethan looked just as confused.

“He knows Leo and Ferry,” I said, feeling my lips lift as I thought of him. “Super hot, but way out of my league. I bumped into him at the club the other night.”

“He was chatting to you then too,” Lucky muttered, tapping his fingers on the table. “Have you seen him anywhere else?”

“No, just last night at the restaurant. To be honest, I was glad he was there. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get away from Jeremy.”

“Did Sebastian leave you alone when Jeremy left?”

“Well, he joined me for a drink while I ate my meal, then drove me home.”
