“Do you think we could get out of here?” I asked, feeling like I could barely breathe, my heart thudding too fast in my chest.

“I think we could,” he said, and ushered me off the dance floor, walking past Toby like he wasn’t even there.

Rachel still wouldn’t meet my eye, but I felt no sense of victory. Just excitement at what was happening between me and Adam.

I couldn’t help but wonder if his charm was all for show or if something more was happening between us. I wondered whether or not he was feeling the same excitement if his heart was thudding in his chest.

As we approached the elevator, I reached over and placed my hand on his chest, right over his heart. His heartbeat thudded against my palm, and I wanted to smile but restrained myself.

“What are you doing?” he asked in a low tone as we waited for the elevator.

“I wanted to see if your heart was beating as fast as mine,” I said, and Adam laughed, pressing my palm flat against his chest.

“I think it is,” he said, and leaned down closer to me.

“Adam, what were you and Toby fighting about earlier, before the ceremony?”

He didn’t answer, walking into the elevator as the doors opened. Someone else tried to get on with us.

“Catch the next one,” Adam said in his commanding tone, as I realized it was one of his aunts that had tried to ride up with us. She rolled her eyes but smiled.

“What are you doing?” I asked him. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close to him as soon as the elevator closed. I could feel his hardness against me and I gasped.

“I wanted to show you that I’m just as affected as you are,” Adam said, looking into my eyes. “You want to know what Toby and I were fighting about?”

I nodded, my heart beating even faster. “Yes.”

He looked down at me for a moment longer, brushing a strand of hair away from my face. I felt like my cheeks might catch on fire, I was blushing so hard.

“You,” he said simply, then he leaned down and kissed me.

Chapter 9

Adam

When the elevator dinged at our floor, I barely heard it, my hands wrapped in Katie’s hair, her hands on my chest, clutching at my shirt. The kiss became so much hotter than I expected when she bit my lower lip as I pulled away.

I finally broke apart from her in order to exit the elevator.

I groaned low in my chest.

“You’re coming to my bed,” I told her, not waiting for an answer. She didn’t give me one anyway, simply following me into the room.

“Adam,” she started, and I stopped her with another kiss, a deep, searching one. When I pulled away, we were both breathless.

“I had so much fun with you tonight,” I said quickly, surprising myself. I didn’t open up like that, I didn’t tell women how I felt and if I did they were usually lies, but what I was saying was true. “You make me feel like I’m alive for the first time in... in a long time.”

“Do you mean that?” she asked me, gasping for breath, her breasts heaving in the tight little sundress she was wearing.

“I do, I do mean it,” I said earnestly. “It’s not just about pissing Toby off anymore. I don’t know if it ever was, from the moment I first saw you.”

Katie cut me off with a kiss, pushing at my suit jacket, and I took it off, moaning into her mouth. She started to eagerly unbutton my shirt and I chuckled.

“You’re excited,” I murmured close to her ear, and she shivered.

“It’s been a while,” she admitted.

“Oh?” I asked, with a raised eyebrow. I briefly wondered if Toby was the last man to make love to her, but I didn’t like that idea, so I pushed it out of my mind.
