Chapter 24

Theo wasn't sure when he and Seth would be able to go to the club until Julian and Rob invited Ace to a cake tasting and a sleepover they were having for the kids. That decided it.

Ace was already at their house along with Butter because Danny had asked him to bring her. Theo was helping Seth get ready for their night out. He gave Seth one of his own t-shirts to wear, and he smiled as he put it on. But looking in the mirror, Seth started pulling on it.

"It's tight," he said.

"Yes, it is, and that makes it just right," Theo told him. It was dark blue like his eyes and it stretched across his powerful chest perfectly.

"If you say so," Seth said. For now he was willing to go along with Theo.

"Your leg is all better, right?" Theo asked as they set off. He didn't see any sign of a problem, but they could always take it easy.

"It's all good now. And they gave me my final test at the tearoom. Andy's great-aunts came by and they put me through the wringer. But I did OK."

"OK? They were gushing about you so much they embarrassed Andy."

"Umm. And that's good?" Seth asked.

"Yes. You have their seal of approval."

As they were driving down the dark road, Seth looked toward Peach Tree Hill. "I bet Ace is having fun at that cake tasting."

"They got the idea when they did a tasting to choose their wedding cake." Theo looked at Seth out of the corner of his eye. "Don't tell me you would rather go to that?"

"No," Seth said unconvincingly.

"What is it with you and cake?" Theo wondered.

"And ice cream," Seth added. "Just something I remember from when I was little. At every birthday party for every kid I knew, they had cake and ice cream, but that kind of thing stopped for me after my parents went to prison. I guess I just didn't get my fill."

"Then we'll have to treat you to some," Theo said with a smile.

Seth smiled too. "Are you gonna dance tonight?"

"Sure, and you will too."

"Only if you promise not to make fun of me," Seth told him.

"No promises."

The drive took a while but they arrived at the club at a good time. Since the truck didn't make the best impression, Theo parked a few blocks away and they walked to Club Nuevo. The stairs leading down were dimly lit then the door opened and the music got loud. Going inside, Seth took a step back as he was hit by the flashing lights and the pounding beat.

Theo urged him forward with a hand on his lower back and grabbed some sodas at the bar. He picked a spot that gave them a good view of the dance floor. After they had a look around the place, Seth leaned in to speak in Theo's ear.

"I thought..." Seth started then he looked unsure so Theo prompted him.

"What?"

Seth shook his head. "I thought you were taking me to a gay club."

"There are gay people here. There is a gay bar, but it's over 21." Theo pointed out some gay guys hanging out together and a few lesbian couples among all the straight seeming people.

Seth accepted his answer, but actually Theo wanted to bring Seth to a place where he could choose between girls or guys. "See anything you like?" Theo asked him but Seth just kept staring at him.

The club was a bit much at first, but Theo was there with him and that was all Seth cared about. But Theo kept pointing out different people in the club, asking, "What about her? What about him?" It was always someone good-looking, but Seth didn't really want to look away from Theo.
