I’m fine.
Emilia sighs. “Or, you know, just skip to the good part and take their teeth.”
Eden leans forward, blue gaze sparkling with interest. “What is that about, exactly? I’ve heard it’s a practice among your kind. But I’m curious about its significance.”
I nod, agreeing with Eden. “I am curious as well. It’s not as if you use your teeth the way vampires do. Seems an odd punishment.”
My attention turns to my mate when she answers instead of Emilia. “Our sharp teeth represent our power. They identify us as witches to those with the ability to see. Without them, we look like regular humans.”
There’s a note of sadness in Jade’s voice.
I’d never noticed Jade’s sharp teeth.
Were hers taken? Or was she so angry at her coven she sought to cut ties through every possible means? Even through her appearance.
I study my mate’s profile and decide not to ask her. She’ll tell me if and when she’s ready.
Jade clears her throat. “If that’s all, I have an urgent matter to attend to.” She looks at Emilia, who nods. “Again, I appreciate your swift action on this matter, and for adjusting your busy schedules to meet me in such a timely manner.”
“Certainly,” Eden says with a smile.
Jade stands, and the rest of the table follows her lead. “The lords will see you out,” she says before opening a portal in the middle of my damn conference room and stepping through it.
Chapter 15
JADE
Ashroud of dread fell around me as soon as Eden said the word.
Dungeon.
I needed to deal with it.
Withher.
The door to AJ’s cell is right in front of me. But before I slide open the wood-covered window in the center, I reach out to Vrahs.
Were you able to reach the fae city?
I’m afraid not, love.
That isn’t great news. But I’ve got a superb poker face.
Please keep trying.
I don’t think they are open to outside communication.
The fae are a cloistered society, so it makes sense. Not optimal, but…
I guess I’m taking a trip to fae-town, then.
See? Now that’s progress to be proud of. The old me would have thought up a reckless, desperate plan and not told a soul I was doing it. Looping Vrahs in twice in the same day is huge. I hope he sees that.
You’re what!? Absolutely not, Jade. I forbid it. You’re not to set foot in the fae city. Am I entirely clear?
Ha ha. Very funny, Vrahs.
Before I can get out my rebuttal, the demon lord portals to me.
