I grin at him. “Well then, we’re going to be brave. We’re not leaving here until we’ve convinced her to help Fabian.”

Whipping out my secret weapon—my most charming smile—I aim it at Z and pat his arm.

“Don’t worry, man. We’ve got this.”

Running away from theburning coven building, I sprint as far as the main street before dipping into an alleyway to catch my breath. I don’t want to draw attention to myself and running like your ass is on fire will do that.

I pat my pockets again, confirming I didn’t lose the artifacts when my rescuer tipped me upside down, and continue on my way.

My contact works in a seedy area in the basement of a strip club. It’s at the opposite side to the Salvage Yards and takes me forty minutes to trek over there. After a lightning fast handover, my pockets are light two artifacts and instead are stuffed with cash.

Disastrous job signed off on. It’s all I want to head home and forget all about it.

Too bad fate hates me, so that’s not on the cards.

I mentally run through the events of the last couple of days. It might just be me, but it seems like I got mighty unlucky. What were the chances of the place going up in flames while I was trying to get out unnoticed?

The image of two hazel eyes keeps floating back into my mind. It occurs to me on my way home that the coven is one that only accepts females.

So who the hell was my unexpected savior and what was he doing there?

A mystery I’ll probably never solve.

I’m on the home straight back to the warehouse when I hear Ember’s voice in my head.

“Hey, Silver. You might want to get back here sharpish. Seems you’ve got a couple of visitors.”

A stone sinks into my gut, and my palms start to sweat again. Shit. The coven can't have noticed they’re light a couple of artifacts yet, right? Even if they had, they couldn’t link it back to me.

No way.

I’m sure they’re still busy putting out the fire.

Although you’d think they would have fireproofed the place when they were setting up the wards. Fuck, I feel like I need to do a whole health and safety for dummies course with them.
