Deacon cocked an eyebrow. “Come out with it, what are you implying?”
“That we had something to do with it,” Elijah said. “I guess he forgot about the part where Dante and Chandler kidnapped me. An Alpha… I’m not a punk, Théoden. So, if their methods worked on me, I’m sure they knew what they were doing.”
“And did you ever find out how Chandler did it before he died?” I asked. I couldn’t shake my suspicion about Deacon or Elijah, since he was now with him. Deacon was better at hiding his emotions, but Elijah’s heartbeat was racing. I could smell his fear rising, which let me know there was more to the story than what was told.
Deacon laughed, and I heard Elijah’s heart rate start to slow again. No doubt, Deacon could smell and sense his mate’s fear. “I told you everything that I know, Théoden. Everything we were able to get out of Chandler. I turned him because I wanted to make him feel pain for his offense to my mate. I had planned to torture him as a wolf, because as a human, I really couldn’t get my satisfaction. He was weak, human stock… didn’t survive the transformation. My loss and yours. Now, if that’s all, Eli and I would like to return home. We have a long drive ahead.”
“Indeed. Oh, by the way, you may have a rat in your pack. Someone who helped Dante when he was a rebel in your territory.”
“Is that so? Do you happen to know who this rat bastard is?” Deacon asked me, one eyebrow cocked.
I shook my head. “Dante wasn’t privy to their identity. I just thought you should know. We don’t need any weak links in our pack.”
Deacon gave me a half smile, one that was full of annoyance, and I knew it was because I had laid claim on his pack. “I’ll get right on it,” he said. “Is that all?”
I smiled and nodded. “Safe travels,” I said and walked away. Oh yeah, he is very smooth. Josef was right. He played the long game, but so did I.
The repast was held in a huge banquet hall of sorts. Humans were chained to the walls and vampires fed on them, different flavors for different tastes. There was plenty of fucking to be had, as well. I hung out with my brothers for a bit, catching up on everything they’d been up to, especially Karim. I then spent time with my sons, and introduced Michael to Somchai. He knew Dante, but the two never got a chance to really get to know each other before Michael had to leave. The same could be said about Noel, but at least they got a chance to bond before he’d left. The repast was a pleasant event and I understood why humans had them. After the sadness of saying goodbye, it was a chance to look forward to the future and to spend time with those you love who are still with you.
That’s what we all did and our future was so promising.
The End
