Shaking my head, I try again. “L-Leslie,” I stutter, and I see the moment Gray understands.
He curses under his breath. “That was your sister’s?”
I nod. “G-Gunner took it. H-he gave it to me when I was with the R-Reapers.” I swallow and ball my hands into fists. Then I resolutely step forward until I can reach it and look at the bottom. Sure enough, it has the initials LM stitched into the bottom of one of its hooves. “Look.”
Holding it toward Gray, I show him, but I’m not sure he needs to see it. Now that he knows, I’m sure he recognized it from when I kept it in our room after taking it from my old house and bringing it here.
“Fuck,” he spits, running a hand down his face. Proving that he understood my rambling perfectly, he looks between his brothers. “That was Leslie’s unicorn. Zoe took it from their house and brought it here, but Gunner took it before faking his fucking death.”
Slasher seems to be the first one who understands the significance of this. “How?” he asks.
Munroe is the next one to pick up on it. “How the fuck is that possible?” he growls menacingly. “I triple fucking checked this room this morning. It wasn’t here then.”
“I was in here for a drink two hours ago and it wasn’t here then,” Doug says.
Stretch’s the one who says what I don’t even want to think. “Prez, do we have another mole?”
Gray kicks one of the chairs and whirls on his brother. “If we do, I’ll personally fucking make sure they live to regret it.”
“What are your orders?” Slasher asks calmly.
When Gray doesn’t immediately answer, I say, “We have to get rid of Rusty and Irina before Gunner, or whoever is behind this, gets to them.”
“They’re safe with the Diamond Crew,” Stretch says, sounding like they don’t matter.
I can’t say I blame him, since I don’t know if he’s ever had any personal interaction with them. But I have, so I know firsthand just how fucking lethalthe siblings are.
“And we’re supposed to be safe here,” I volley. “I’m not willing to take the chance. Right now Gunner’s alone, or at the most, working with a mole or two. I refuse to let him get his group back together.”
“She’s right,” Munroe says. “This isn’t a time to leave anything up to chance.”
“Of course she’s right,” Gray barks, still looking at the unicorn. “We’ll leave right fucking now. Wake everyone up. I want fucking double the people on every post. Tell Tex his eyes need to stay glued to security. If he needs to piss, someone needs to hand him a fucking bottle.”
The drive to Dirty Diamonds is done in half the time. Gray flies down the roads on his bike, barely stopping for pedestrians and red lights. I spend the time clinging to him while trying not to scream for fear of startling him.
“You fucking lunatic,” I spit as I jump off the bike and rip the helmet off. “I almost thought we were going to die on the road.”
Gray pats the handle and elegantly swings his legs over the bike. “What a way to go,” he smirks.
Even though I like that his murderous mood is gone, even if it’s just for a brief moment, I slam the helmet into his stomach. “I didn’t fucking live through hell just to splatter on the pavement,” I seethe.
He scowls. “Don’t even fucking joke about that, Princess.”
“Who’s joking?” I deadpan as I open the door to the club.
We weave through the hallways to the elevator and take it downstairs where Cain’s waiting for us.
“How do you want to do this?” he asks without preamble, practically oozing giddiness. When we don’t answer him right away, he continues. “Because I have a few ideas.”
“Let’s hear them,” I say, taking Gray’s hand.
My thumb rubs a circle on the back of Gray’s hand as Cain explains his idea. “Remember the mirrors?” he asks, and we nod. “They’re not normal mirrors. But more like the fun house variety. I’ve always wanted to test them for a hunt, but never had the chance.”
The way he pouts would be comical under different circumstances. Boohoo. Poor little psycho.
“I like that,” I say, perking up at the idea of seeing Irina run for her fucking life like she made me do. “A lot.”
“Do you agree with the Princess’ decree, King Gray?” Cain asks, bowing deeply as he addresses Gray.
