“Fuck, I can’t wait to get inside the private jet,” he said.
She laughed. “Me too.”
CHAPTER 50
“I don’t know if I can ever face your grandfather again, Ved. My God, I pretty much yelled at him the last time I saw him!”
Samantha paced in the Simha beach house kitchen while Ved sat at the small dining table, watching her with a grin.
Samantha was having a mini meltdown because they were going to fly to Ved’s grandfather’s estate for a reunion next weekend when the holidays began.
It was reunion of mended friendships and relationships. Her father and Ved’s father had already met in a tearful reunion a few weeks ago, but they were going to be at the estate to meet their extended families and friends.
Samantha was excited about the reunion, until she realized she had to face the man she had yelled at.
Ved chuckled. “My grandmother thought you were awesome. No one had dared to yell at her husband before.”
Samantha’s cheeks heated as she glared at him.
“Ugh! You should have dragged me away when I snapped!”
Samantha recalled what had happened. Ved and she were heading back to the university from Paris after the long, eventful night which resulted in her step father’s arrest. During midflight, she had made a request.
“I want to talk to your grandparents, Ved. Please take me there.”
Ved knew it was important to her, so he had requested the pilot to go to the Simha estate.
Ved’s grandparents were surprised seeing him with her as she was not only his former best friend, but also the girl whose mother had accused their son of molesting her.
“I came here to ask for your forgiveness. Unknowingly, I was responsible in propagating a lie.”
Samantha had played the recording where her mother boasted about falsely implicated an innocent man.
Ved’s grandmother looked relieved because she had always believed in her son’s innocence and now there was proof that would prove his innocence to the world as well. But Jairam Simha remained stubbornly silent, not looking regretful of having treated his son with cold silence for years.
That’s when Samantha lost it.
She yelled at Ved’s grandfather for being stubborn and told him in quite a bit of detail how he hurt his son with such behavior.
“Oh God,” she groaned aloud, recalling what all she had said to the Simha patriarch.
Ved laughed. He got up from the chair and dragged her close until she fell on his lap. His arms then wrapped around her.
Heat enveloped her and she felt safe and alive.
“You were on fire,” his voice rumbled. “No one had dared to yell at my grandfather even though the stubborn old man had deserved it many times.”
Samantha knew Ved loved and admired his grandfather, but Jairam Simha’s anger and pride had led to problems between close friends. Abhiram’s and Avantika’s fathers and also Rana’s and Namrata’s fathers’ fallout began partly because of Ved’s grandfather’s temper.
“Remember what else my grandmother said?” he reminded.
Samantha recalled that Ved’s grandmother was amused by Samantha’s yelling at her husband.
“She’s awesome and I already love her,” Ved’s grandmother told Ved. “She’s the right fit for your stubborn grandfather. I can’t wait to welcome her back into our family.”
“My grandfather likes you too,” Ved continued to say. “Last night, when I spoke to him, he specifically asked how you are doing.”
Ved had also told her about his grandfather apologizing to Ved’s father as soon as the truth came out. The older man had asked his son’s forgiveness for not believing the truth and treating his own son distantly over the years.
