The girls still seemed excited rather than upset about the Simhas crashing the party. Many of them left with the Simhas.Idiots.
Rishi was beyond amused. They were inside her car, and she was dripping on the brand-new leather seats.
“I must say I wasn’t expecting that,” Rishi said. “I knew Ved Simha would come, but I didn’t know you’d throw your drink at him and he’d go all Tarzan on you.”
“Oh, shut up.”
Rishi grinned. “What are you going to do, darling?”
Her eyes narrowed while she drove. She was going to get back at her enemy somehow. And this time, he wouldn’t know what had hit him.
CHAPTER 17
It took a lot of patience and quite a bit of planning and also some external help required to do what Samantha planned.
“Are you absolutely sure about this, darling?” Rishi asked.
Rishi was seated across from her in the cafeteria having coffee and snacks. For the first time, she discussed something other than their work with him. She had asked him for a favor the previous night, which he readily obliged.
“He’s Ved Simha,” Rishi reminded. “He’s not going to like being ridiculed publicly.”
Samantha took a bite of her croissant. “I’m doing thisbecauseI know he wouldn’t like being publicly ridiculed.”
Rishi was amused by what she had been scheming. “Darling, you are quite the wicked thing when crossed.”
A small smile hovered on her lips. She looked at the time on her watch. The game should have already begun an hour ago and would be done in a few minutes.
It was a basketball game between the Tigers and some other team. Ved Simha was the captain of the Tigers basketball team. The court often filled up, especially with the fan girls who went to cheer for her enemy.
She was having her second cup of coffee and biting into a scone when the cafeteria buzzed with excitement. She immediately knew who it was.
Moments later when she looked up, her eyes met with Ved Simha’s. He was heading her way followed by a big group of minions. She recognized Keya Gupta who was wearing cheerleading attire. Keya looked angry and outraged. She was trying to say something to Ved, but he ignored the other girl and continued to stride purposefully.
“Congratulations, Ved,” a girl sitting a few tables away greeted. “I knew you would win—” the girl broke off with a horrified gasp as Ved Simha passed by. The girl was staring at the back of his basketball jersey with her mouth open. Samantha felt deep satisfaction inside her. Her revenge had the expected outcome.
She watched as her enemy stopped right at her table. Placing his hands on the top, he leaned towards her.
He was still sweating, which meant he came to her straight from the game. The citrusy cologne combined with the clean, earthy masculine sweat made a surprisingly heady scent.
Their eyes clashed.
“I know it’s you who did it,” he growled.
She raised an eyebrow. “You are disturbing my meeting again.”
He swept a brief glance over to Rishi before his eyes once again locked onto hers. His mouth twisted into a dark smile as he leaned even closer and whispered wickedly into her ear.
“Oh, I’m going to disturb more than just your meeting. Game on, Samantha Roy.” Her enemy then straightened and walked away.
Samantha’s eyes fell on his back, where bold fluorescent green letters were stitched on the back of his black and yellow basketball jersey. They spelled ‘Manwhore.’ Ved Simha had to play a basketball game with those letters on his jersey.
She realized she was holding her breath while he was in her space. She let out her breath slowly.
“My goodness,” she heard Rishi say as he dramatically fanned himself with his hand. “That was intense. Do you think he suspects my involvement?”
She shook her head. “Even if he does, I’m his target.”
The previous night, she had asked Rishi to go to the men’s basketball locker room to get Ved’s basketball jersey. She didn’t think it was easy, but it was worth a try to get back at her enemy.
