Before he could say anything, she turned away and placed the headphones of the Simha video tour guide into her ears.
No one sat next to her.
Soon, the bus filled up and began to move.
Stunning visuals of the ocean passed by as the bus travelled up the winding mountain roads. It looked quite familiar as she had seen the pictures many times during her childhood.
She deliberately looked away from the ocean. It was silly but she felt if she enjoyed the view or her time at the university, it would be a betrayal to herself. She was determined to stay indifferent to her experience for the next one and a half year at the university.
Suddenly shrieks filled the bus. The girls in the bus began screaming like they had seen their favorite celebrities.
“It’s them!”
“Where are they? I can’t see!”
“There! They are there!”
“Oh my God! Yes! I see them!”
“I can’t wait to see them at tonight's party.”
Samantha increased the volume of her headphones to drown out the shrieks and conversations. But out of curiosity, her eyes automatically looked out of the bus window. She couldn’t see anything at first. But then, a moment later, her eyes fell on a group of bikers far below on the mountain roads. The girls were most likely referring to those bikers.
Nostalgia hit her suddenly again as she was reminded of an old conversation. She knew a lot of students at Simha were bikers. Her father had been one too.
“I’m going to ride the bike along the ocean at Simha University just like Papa did.”
Her best friend grinned. “And I’m going to be sitting right behind you when you do that.”
Ignoring the sudden heavy feeling inside her heart, she shifted to the empty seat next to her away from the window before closing her eyes. She blocked out everything once again.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t block everything out completely. Everywhere she went, she heard shrieks and loud, excited buzzes of conversation. Most of them were about a party that was being thrown somewhere off the main campus.
“What are you wearing for tonight’s party?”
“I’m wearing my pink jumpsuit. I’m hoping to ride back on a bike!”
Samantha had just dropped off her luggage in the assigned housing apartment. She didn’t wait to introduce herself to her roommates. She had gone into the bedroom, gave it a sweeping look before freshening up and wearing the university uniform and heading to the place where the commencement speech was going to be held.
The event was held at a large, white-colored circular building. She had paused to check her assigned house team and to see itinerary of the events when she overheard yet another group of girls referring to the party.
“I can’t wait for tonight’s party!”
There was a giggle. “Me neither. And I’m hoping to land a big catch.”
“Which one?”
“The wildest and the most exciting one.”
There was laughter. “You mean the one who does only threesomes?”
“Yup. Since my roommate is in for it, I’m going to surely catch him!”
Ignoring the conversation, Samantha continued to go to the main hall auditorium where the commencement speech would take place. She was directed to sit in the front row, where the new transfer students were seated. She took the seat at the corner, leaving the seat next to her empty.
A couple of girls greeted her and introduced themselves. But when she didn’t return their excitement, they left her alone. She knew she was being a bitch, but she didn’t care and wanted to be left alone.
