Page 47 of Reckless Hate

Despite her curiosity, she didn’t go towards the cheering crowd because she didn’t want to see her enemy. Seeing him would shoot up her heart rate, equally pissing her off and confusing her. So, she went into the fort.

It was huge from inside and quite dark with only the barest of light from the moonlight spilling in. She heard a female giggle followed by a moan and then a masculine groan. She knew it must be a couple hooking up in one of the dark rooms at the fort.

Ignoring the noises, she turned on the flashlight on her phone and went up the stairs carefully. The sounds of the couple, the bikes and the cheering slowly faded as she reached the topmost floor. Carefully, she turned the flashlight around. When she saw the half-elephant and half-human sculpture carved into the wall next to the stairs, she knew she had reached the right place.

She went towards the windows where she should be able to see the ocean. According to her father, it was supposed to be the best view on the entire island.

The moonlight fell on the floors, making it slightly brighter. So, she turned off her phone’s flashlight. She was barely a few feet away when she saw a shadow move by the window. And when the person turned, her heart nearly stopped. It was her enemy.

The moonlight fell only on half of his chiseled face, making him appear otherworldly. Like the devil.

They stared at each other for a moment, although she wasn’t sure whether or not he could see her or knew it was her. The very presence of her enemy made her off-balance. What was he doing up in the fort instead of racing with his cousins?

“What the hell are you doing up here, Sam?” he asked in a tone that bordered on anger. “No one is allowed here. It’s dangerous.”

Her back stiffened at his tone. “Then what are you doing here?” she retorted.

She could sense him gritting his teeth. “I’m used to this place since I come here often. But some of the steps are broken and many students have fallen and gotten hurt.”

She knew he must be right. But she didn’t want to admit it. And her safety was none of his concern.

“I came to see the ocean view,” she said coolly.

There was silence.

She could feel the air vibrate with tension and unknown emotion. Taking a deep breath and ignoring her enemy, she stepped towards the window and stood next to him before looking out.

The view was indeed stunning. The moon looked huge above the vast ocean. She could see the lighthouse at a distance.

“The best view in Simha,” he said.

“Yeah,” she replied.

A strange feeling twisted inside her heart. Suddenly, it felt as though the years of separation melted away and they were once again best friends. Maybe it was the darkness that made her feel that way because the dark hid the anger and hatred in her enemy’s eyes.

“Why are you not racing with your cousins and friends?” she asked, keeping her eyes on the distant ocean.

He was silent for a moment. “Because I knew you’d come up here. You were always impulsive. I knew you would want to see this fort and the view from up here.”

Her heart jerked. She was no longer that girl. She now controlled every thought and aspect of her life. But she had been impulsive before, considering every moment of her life to be an adventure, especially with him next to her.

She turned to him, and her heart raced when she saw he was watching her. The air seemed to turn even thicker, making it difficult for her to breathe easily. Her breaths came out slightly faster.

She didn’t know how it happened or who moved first, but suddenly their mouths met together. Once again, the kiss was raw and intense.

His fingers wrapped around her hair while hers dug into the soft leather of his biker jacket. His tongue pushed into her mouth and tasted her over and over, causing a moan to escape her throat. He dragged her even closer as though he couldn’t get enough. And as their bodies pressed together, she could feel him. She could feel the hard ridge of his torso and feel the other hardness that she had once seen bared to her. She rubbed her stomach against it, causing a deep groan to escape him.

A voice inside her screamed a warning while her body continued to move against him.

Suddenly, the heat of his mouth left hers, and his hand in her hair dropped before he stepped away with a vicious curse. “Fuck!”

She blinked her eyes open. Still caught in a passionate haze, she saw her enemy’s face from up close in the moonlight. He looked angry and disgusted.

That was enough to snap her out of the insanity that caught hold of her. Sucking in an angry breath, she turned away from him and began to leave.

How could I kiss him again!

She was beyond pissed off. Tears of embarrassment and humiliation stung her eyes, and she went down the stairs. She heard his curses.
