Fuck.

He began running towards her. “Sam!” he yelled.

When he reached her, he saw that she lay completely still.

His heart thudded like a drum. “Sam,” he called out again. He frantically checked to see if she was breathing. She was, and her breaths came out deep and even.

He looked around and saw the bottle of drink she had been having. It wasn’t an alcoholic drink. It was a flavored soda.

What the fuck happened then?

A chill went up his spine and then rage filled him.

Someone must have drugged her.

He hadn’t paid attention to the girl who had given the drink to Samantha. Something must have been mixed into it.

“What happened?” Abhi asked.

Ved noticed that the party came to a standstill, and a crowd began gathering around him.

“Someone drugged Samantha’s drink. I’m taking her to the hospital.”

Carefully, he picked her up and began walking when someone came in his way.

“You can’t take her to the hospital, Ved. If she is drugged, it will come out in her tests, and management will know. We’d all be in trouble.”

“I don’t give a fuck.”

He didn’t care if the whole bloody lot, including him, got suspended for using drugs at a party. He and his cousins never touched drugs in their lifetime, but getting suspended was a risk he was more than willing to take.

“You might not care, but Samantha might,” another girl said. “She will be kicked out of the Simha tennis team.”

“Why the fuck would they kick her out?” he asked. “When someone else drugged her?”

“They will suspend her until it’s proven it isn’t her fault, which will be hard to prove.”

He stared at Samantha’s face while she lay unconscious in his arms. He knew tennis was an important part of her life. Was he willing to risk her being kicked out of team Simha?

“Let a medic check on her right now,” Abhi suggested.

There were a few final-year medical year students. One of them checked on her pulse and heart rate.

“She seems stable. She needs to sleep it off.”

Ved wasn’t too convinced. What if something happened while she was asleep?

He stared at her face for a long moment while her breathing came out deep and even.

“I’ll watch over her,” he announced.

He carried her to her car. It was tiny.

“I’ll drive,” Rana offered.

Abhi sat in the front passenger seat while Ved sat in the back seat holding Samantha in his arms.

“Do you want to take her to the beach house?” Abhi asked.
