Page 50 of Reckless Hate

Ved shook his head. “No. I don’t want her to feel disoriented. I’ll take her to her room.”

His cousins nodded.

The drive was tense and silent as his heart continued to race. He couldn’t believe how things could go wrong in a split moment. He had seen the worst of his life happen similarly. His heart raced as he thought of a possibility of such a thing happening again and with Sam.

He hugged her close.No. I won’t let it happen.

CHAPTER 24

An hour later, Ved settled Samantha on her bed. Abhi and Rana had taken the help of a few students from the housing unit to make the way clear for him to carry Samantha to her apartment undetected.

He was just thinking about whether or not he could change her into comfortable clothes while closing his eyes when the bedroom door opened.

“What happened? Is Samantha alright?” a girl asked.

He had forgotten all about Samantha’s roommate. He should have locked the door because now the petite girl came towards the bed and hovered while giving him scared and nervous looks.

“Why is Samantha sleeping? What are you doing in her room?”

“She had too many drinks at the party. I brought her back so she can rest. I’ll be with her until she wakes up to make sure she’s doing fine through the night.”

The girl gave him a strange look. “I know Samantha and you don’t get along. Why wouldyoustay here to check on her?”

He knew it would be hard to convince anyone at Simha University that he didn’t hate Samantha. And right then, he was tired as hell, angry and fucking shook about that night’s incidents. He didn’t have the patience to deal with Samantha’s roommate.

“Samantha and I like each other,” he said.

The girl’s eyes grew bigger on her small face. “What?”

“We only pretend to hate each other to make our relationship interesting.”

The roommate looked utterly shocked. “Oh. S-samantha didn’t tell me that before.”

That made him smile. “I doubt if she’s the kind to tell you or anyone anything.”

The girl’s cheeks grew warm, and she blushed. “Uh… yes. Samantha is a bit… intense. But I like her.” Her back grew straight. “She protected me from bullies. I would protect her too.”

He was glad. The way Samantha was with everyone, he assumed she was hated by all.

He looked at the roommate. “Can you do me a favor…” He smiled. “Sorry, I didn’t get your name.”

“I’m Anita Nair.” The girl blushed shyly. “And I know you are Ved Simha. I’m in first-year computer science engineering, and you are my senior.”

He widened his smile and deliberately flashed his dimples. “Oh, that’s great. Anita, I need a favor from you.”

The girl looked dazed at his smile. He knew the effect he had on girls and deliberately used it to his advantage at times.

“I need your help to change Sam into nightclothes.”

Anita Nair blinked a couple of times before nodding. “Yes, of course. I’ll go get them.”

She came back in a minute with a long t-shirt. “I think she was planning to wear this one. It was kept outside the bathroom. Samantha is very… orderly.”

He could imagine. The room resembled a hotel suite rather than a student bedroom.

The roommate looked uncertain. “I… I don’t think I can lift her.”

Samantha was several inches taller than her petite roommate.
