“I was drugged at a party last night.”

At her abrupt statement, Rishi froze. His beautiful eyes with ridiculously long lashes grew bigger. “What the hell, Samantha! How can you coolly say you were drugged!”

“Shh. People will hear.”

But her friend got worked up. “No, I will not shush! Why are you so calm? And how could you not tell me right away?”

She let out a sigh. “Ved took me back to my room. He was with me until I woke up this morning and left after we had breakfast together.”

Her friend stared at her as if she had just announced she was an alien in disguise and was returning to her planet.

“Say something,” she said.

Slowly Rishi unfroze, and there was a satisfied smile on his face. “I knew it!”

“What?”

“I knew you and Simha would be an item one day.”

She frowned. “We are not an item. He just happened to be there to help. Doesn’t mean we are friends. Or will weeverbe friends.” She hadn’t told Rishi about her and Ved being best friends during childhood.

“Hmm…I wasn’t talking about friendship, but okay.”

She didn’t like the knowing grin on Rishi’s face. It annoyed her.

“Stop that! Or I might do something that would ruin your pretty face.”

That made his grin widen. “Hmm… you never threaten violence, darling. Looks like Ved Simha really shook you up.”

She got up. She was done with breakfast, or rather she couldn’t eat one more bite. “Let’s go to the workshop,” she said. “I want to change some parameters and run the experiments.”

Rishi’s grin remained intact as he got up and followed her.

CHAPTER 26

It was close to seven in the evening when they wrapped up the experiment in the lab.

“Want to grab dinner?” Rishi asked.

Samantha suppressed a small yawn. “No. You go ahead. I’ll get back to my room. I need to work on some pending assignments before this week.”

Rishi nodded.

She took the shuttle since she was too tired. She hoped she could catch up with enough sleep for tennis practice the next day.

Fifteen minutes later, when she stepped into her apartment, her mind was still on the assignments she had to check. But as soon as she stepped into her room, she froze.

Her enemy was in her room.

“Why the hell were you out so long?” he demanded.

Immediately, anger rose inside her. “That’s none of your damn business!” she snapped.

“It is my fucking business because I’m keeping the damn secret of you being drugged last night! Just earlier this morning, you nearly fainted a couple of times and you think you can jump around the campus all day long?”

Before she could think of a comeback, he frowned. “Have you eaten anything since breakfast?”

“Yes!” she snapped. “I grabbed lunch with Rishi.”
