Page 56 of Reckless Hate

Her enemy’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t say anything. He sat on the corner of her bed as though he owned the damn room.

“I brought pizza. Grab a plate.”

Her stomach fluttered, and she attributed it to anger and annoyance and also maybe her nearly empty stomach since she didn’t have dinner. But there was no way she would ever think it fluttered because she thought the jerk’s gesture was considerate.

“Stop telling me what to do,” she snapped. “If you are here to check on the events of last night, get on with it.”

A flash of amusement passed on his face at her outburst. “Dinner first.”

She was about to snap saying she wasn’t hungry, but when he opened the pizza box, her stomach made a rude rumbling noise.

Her enemy raised an eyebrow.

“Fine, I’ll have a slice,” she said ungraciously.

She put two slices on the plate in front of her. He must have brought the plates from the kitchen.

Why the hell is Anita allowing him to move about the kitchen freely? He must have charmed the innocent girl.

Biting into her pizza, she looked at him secretively. His chiseled face was focused on putting a slice of pizza on his plate. When he looked up and their eyes met, her stomach quivered again.

“So, what did your girlfriend say?” she asked.

She didn’t know why she was taunting him. But she wanted to get rid of the buzzing awareness towards him. Early that morning they had breakfast together, and now, they were having dinner. It felt too intimate and cozy.

“I already told you I don’t have girlfriends.”

“I just fuck.”

She was reminded of what he had said before.

Her stomach fluttered once again. Annoyed, she attributed it to lack of sleep.

“I spoke to Keya Gupta,” he said. “She started crying when I told her I knew she drugged you. She confessed saying that she asked her friend to send you the drugged drink. The drug used was apparently of low potency that was meant to make you faint asleep. It wouldn’t show up in your bloodstream beyond twenty-four hours.”

Samantha frowned. “How do you know it is of low potency?”

“I made her bring me the sample and I sent it to the medical lab to check.”

She wasn’t surprised he somehow had access to such information.

“Keya begged me for forgiveness and promised she would never approach you again. But you are free to report her video confession to get her suspended.”

Samantha had always found the other girl to be an annoyance. But she didn’t know if she wanted the other girl suspended from the university.

“As long as she doesn’t bother me again, I am fine.”

He nodded.

The awareness grew once again and she felt the need to get away.

“Alright,” she said. “Now that your crazy girlfriend promised to stay away from me, and I’m almost done with dinner, you may leave.”

His mouth twisted. “Why the hurry? Does my presence bother you? Are you worried we’ll kiss again and won’t stop with it?”

She scoffed. “Don’t flatter yourself. I don’t feel anything for you. Those two kisses were a mistake.”

His eyes flashed. “They were actually three kisses,” he reminded her of the one where he kissed her first during the masquerade.
