Shaking her head in exasperation, she locked her balcony doors. Again.
CHAPTER 29
“You are going to make a killing, darling. I know you’ll bring back a trophy to Simha.”
Samantha nodded at Rishi. “Thank you.”
When it came to tennis, she was always confident of her ability. But a sliver of nervousness crept through before the inter-university tournaments began in two days. It was irrational of her, but she wanted to win a trophy for Simha University like her father.
“How long will you be gone for again?” Rishi asked.
“Three days.”
“Oh! We are going to miss you,” Rishi said, including Anita, who was seated with them in the cafeteria.
Anita smiled. “But Samantha won’t miss us. Ved is going to keep her company.”
Rishi frowned. “Ved Simha will be busy. He and his cousins are expected to bring back championship trophies this year too.”
Anita shook her head. “Oh no. Not during the championship games. I meant Ved and Samantha are partnered in the Outreach Program.”
Rishi’s eyebrows flew up. “Really?”
Samantha hadn’t told Rishi because the guy would make a big deal out of it.
“How could you not tell me!” Rishi said, his ridiculously handsome face appeared quite annoyed.
Samantha sighed at his dramatic statement. “It’s not a big deal. The dean paired us up because Ved has experience with the Outreach Program.”
“Hmm…” There was a thoughtful look. “You know. It’s odd, but I’m getting a strange vibe that Neela ma’am is up to something.”
“What do you mean?”
“Isn’t it strange that you had to work with Ved Simha during masquerade too? And now, of all the people, you got paired with him again? Definitely not a coincidence.”
Samantha frowned. “That’s because she heard about what was happening between us and how we were sabotaging each other. She wants us to… get along.”
“And it’s working!” Anita said with excitement. “The other day, I saw Ved and Samantha ki—”
Samantha cut her roommate off midway. “Alright. Let’s get going. I need to go to the library and finish an assignment.” She looked at Rishi. “You should get going to the workshop. I finished the calculations. I would like you to check them once.”
Rishi nodded, but once again, there was a knowing look on his face.
Her phone began ringing. When she looked at the screen, she was shocked. The name flashing read asMy Heartthrob.
What the hell?
“Well, well,” Rishi said in amusement. “Who is that heartthrob of yours?”
A jolt hit her as she realized who it was. There was only one guy who could mess with her phone.
“Not sure,” she said, grabbing the phone and getting up. “I’ll see you guys later.”
Turning away from two sets of amused faces, she walked out of the cafeteria. As soon as she was out of hearing distance, she answered the phone.
“Stop hacking into my phone!” she snapped.
There was a deep, amused chuckle. “You started it first. I’m just playing along.”
