Samantha frowned. “What happened?”

She didn’t give a damn about what happened to her stepfather. But she did care about how it would impact Sohan. And it must be something significant if her mother was calling her for the first time in months.

“Your stepfather was beaten up badly outside our house! He’s in the hospital with broken hands and legs. The guy even threatened him!”

Samantha frowned. “Who is that guy?”

“I don’t know. Ronak said the guy was exceptionally tall, broad and built. He had covered his face, but he sounded quite menacing. Ronak said it wasn’t a random hooligan out to rob him. The guy’s voice apparently sounded polished and he even wore expensive cologne. Ronak wouldn’t tell what else the guy said to him. He said he didn’t remember anything else because of the blows to his head.”

Samantha froze. Her heart began thumping crazily.

“I’m so scared, Sammy,” her mother said in a girlish whine. “What if that hooligan comes for me? I don’t know what I should do!”

Samantha blinked and pulled herself together. “I don’t think that person won’t come for you. It could have been a random attack by some drug addict for money. I’ll ask Maria to call her sister to stay at home with you until things settle.”

Her mother let out a sob. “Yes, that is better. I don’t think I will step out of the house ever again!”

Samantha spoke to her mother for a few more minutes until she calmed down. She then made a call to Maria, requesting her to call her sister who also stayed in Paris to come and stay in the house until her stepfather was back home.

When things settled somewhat, she ended the call. Her heart continued to race as she stepped into the shower in a daze.

No. It can’t be him.

Why would he do it?

Why would he care?

She shook her head at her fanciful thinking. Finishing her shower, she wrapped a towel before stepping out of the bathroom. Her mind was still whirling with thoughts when she opened her underwear drawer to pull out a panty.

“The black lacy one,” a deep amused voice instructed. “Or better yet, nothing, since you won’t be wearing any all night.”

Jumping with startlement, she turned to see her enemy’s handsome, grinning face.

He came closer, and his eyes hooded into a familiar heated look. “Fuck, I missed you,” he said, cupping her cheek and looking at her face closely.

Her heart melted. She opened her mouth to tell him she had missed him too.

“I would have come earlier,” he said softly. “But I had to take a brief detour.”

She froze. That’s when she knew.

“Did you miss me, Sam—” He broke off when she shoved hard at his chest using both her hands.

His back thudded hard against her bathroom door with a loud sound, which she knew Anita and even the students in the apartment below would be able to hear. But the jerk just laughed.

“Whoa! Looks like you are in quite the mood for some hot, angry hate sex. I’m always ready, sweetie.”

“Shut up, you asshole!” she yelled. “I know it was you!”

He just smirked.

“I know it was you who flew to Paris and beat the shit out of my stepfather!”

He shrugged.

“What the hell were you thinking, Ved!” she yelled.

That’s when his smirk dropped, and he looked dead serious. He stepped closer until he was only a few inches away and looked into her eyes.
