“That, that was a part of the plan.” He points to his temple. “Smart, huh?”
“No, Enzo. Not smart. I was drunk on the back of his motorcycle. Things got…” I slap my hand over my mouth to stop the words from spilling out.
“Got what?” He leans down, squinting, to peer into my eyes. When I don’t say anything, he pulls my hands away from my face. “Blaze? Things got what?”
“A little carried away.”
“Meaning?”
I pick at a peeling flake of laminate on the bar. “Meaning he told me how to get off on his bike,” I mumble.
“Get off, onhis bike? Or get off his bike?”
“The first one.”
He stands straight up and swallows hard. “And you… did?”
I flick my eyes to his and divert them back to the bar, now determined to sit here until it’s peeled bare before I meet his eyes again.
He slams his hand down on mine to halt my destruction. “Ha! This is perfect. I couldn’t have planned a more desirable outcome.” He clears his throat when I look up at him, my cheeks erupting in flames of embarrassment. “Poor choice of words. That’s not what I meant, but good for you, Blaze.”
He tosses the rest of his toothpaste toast in the garbage and brushes his hands off. He walks toward the back door.
“Where are you going?”
“Boner walk.”
“We’re not done talking about this,” I yell at his retreating back.
“Then this,” he gestures to his pants, “is going to happen every time you bring that up.”
I grab my bag off the bar and stalk to the locker room. “You’re such a child.”
“A child with a big—”
“Just stop.” I hold my hand up to stop whatever crude comment he’s about to spew. “Cheese and rice.”
Just as I’m about to open the door, Tomi swings it open. Her lips quirk up into an evil sneer. She bends to whisper in my ear. “This place has your stink all over it.”
My neck erupts in goosebumps when the realization of what she said sinks in. I need to find somewhere else to shower. I say the only thing that pops in my head when the door closes in my face and brings the scent of my body wash with it. “Nice of you to show up today.”
Skank.
I set my bags on the bench and pace in a circle.
Think. Calm down and think.
I can fix this. I dig my body spray out of my purse and spray a few squirts as I walk around the room.
Not even a full minute later Tomi walks in with a satisfied grin and Luca right behind her. I school my features and nonchalantly set my bag and purse in my locker.
Luca spreads his arms out in confusion. “What’s this about, Tomi?”
She scoffs and stomps her foot. “Can’t you smell it?”
I turn around acting like I have no idea what’s going on.
He takes a whiff of the air and his eyes widen a little when he looks at me. “Smell what?”
