Kellan glanced between the two of us. “Who are you guys talking about?”
“No one,” Brooke and I echoed at the same time.
Brooke held her hands up. “I get what you’re saying. At the same time, I didn’t know anything about that when I first started talking to Kellan.”
“You still brought a Kavanaugh into our house after everything I sacrificed to keep you and Henry safe!”
Giving me a knowing look, Brooke countered, “I’m sorry. I truly didn’t think it was an issue considering the deal was about Quinn. Nothing was mentioned about any other Kavanaugh, right?”
As much as I hated to admit it, she was right. Mikita wanted his revenge on Quinn specifically, and he hadn’t mentioned any of the other Kavanaugh’s. I sighed. “Fine. Forgetting everything else, help me understand the two of you sleeping together.”
With a hesitant smile, Kellan turned to stare at Brooke. “Your kind, beautiful sister helped me overcome my…problem.”
My anger momentarily faded. “That’s what this was about?”
He bobbed his head. “During your abduction, we were thrown together. I found I could talk to her as easily as I could to you. After telling her about how I’d been talking to you about my problem, she wanted to help me. Physically. And she did.” He once again smiled at Brooke. “I can never thank you enough.”
She grinned at him. “I’m the one who should be thanking you. I mean, you’re amazing. Like a complete and total sex god.”
“Brooke!” I admonished.
At the same time Kellan’s cheeks reddened, a cocky little smirk curved on his lips. “Thank you. If I’m a god, then you’re a goddess.”
“Enough!” I blared. Turning to Brooke, I asked, “Was this just about you scratching a postpartum itch?”
“In a way. I mean, I kinda lost myself in the last six months being Henry’s mom. I just wanted to be young and carefree for a minute. With Kellan, I knew I would be safe.”
My heart softened. Sometimes I forgot how much adulthood had been thrown at her at such a young age. “I get it.” At her look of surprise, I added, “I can get it, but that doesn’t mean I like it.”
She laughed. “There was also a part of me that was kinda obsessed with my post-Henry body, and I wanted to make sure everything worked like it once had before I got into a relationship down the road.”
Although I shouldn’t have, I couldn’t help asking, “And I assume everything is fine?”
She shot a coy grin at Kellan. “I think even better than before.”
While he ducked his head, I rolled my eyes. “I’m glad to hear that. So, what now? Are the two of you dating?”
“No,” Kellan and Brooke said in unison.
I swept my hands to my hips. “Why not?”
“Because it’s not like that between us,” Brooke argued as Kellan nodded.
“Then you’re like friends with benefits or something?”
While Brooke shrugged, a sheepish look came over Kellan’s face. “Actually, now that my problem is gone, I was thinking about seeing if Mabry was still interested.”
To my utter shock, Brooke nodded enthusiastically. “Oh my God! Yes, you have to talk to her.”
I glanced between the two of them. “You know about Mabry?” I asked Brooke.
She rolled her eyes. “Seriously, Isla, we told you we were friends, and don’t friends talk about everything?”
“I suppose so.”
“Well, I know. I think Kellan knows as much about our parents and Henry’s dad as you do.”
At the mention of Henry, a thought popped in my head. “Please tell me the two of you were safe.”
