My heart pounds in my chest, every muscle in my body coiled tight with anticipation of what needed to be done. Remmy was in there somewhere, and I wasn’t leaving until I had him safe again.
The guys flank me, their expressions grim and focused ahead of us. We’d done this sort of thing before, but it had never been this personal for me.
The stakes had never been this high before and I briefly wondered if this is how some of my club brothers have felt when their wives were in so much danger.
Prez motions for us to fan out soon as we’re through the gate, surrounding the building from all sides. Snake stays close, his laptop tucked under his arm, ready to jam any signals or tap into any systems we might need.
As we near the entrance, I catch a glimpse of movement through one of the broken windows. There were more of them but we expected that.
This was going to be messy, but we didn’t have a choice. We had to take them out, one by one, until we got to Remmy.
I make my way around to the back, Torque and a couple of the others close behind me. From our vantage point, I could see them inside.
Four men, each armed, patrolling the perimeter. My gut twists with rage. These bastards were here to back up Kimmie’s ex, and that meant Remmy was in serious danger.
Torque and I exchange a look, a silent agreement passing between us. We knew how to move, how to strike fast and hard without giving them a chance to react.
The first guy didn’t even see it coming. Torque circled around him, grabbing him from behind, while I moved in with a quick, sharp jab to the side of his neck. He goes down without a sound, his weapon falling from his hand. We quickly drag him into the shadows so no one can see him.
We work our way around the building, taking out every man that we encounter. Each one gets me closer to one ultimate goal. To get Remmy back. I knew Hugo was inside, and I wasn’t sure how many more men he had with him.
Finally, we make it to the entrance. The door is ajar, light spilling out into the night. I motion for all the guys to hold their positions, peeking inside just enough to get a sense of the layout.
Standing near the center of the room, a gun in one hand, Remmy in the other was the one man that would feel my absolute wrath. My heart nearly stopped when I saw the boy. His fear clearly shining on his face.
Hugo wasn’t alone in here though. Three more of his men flanked him, their eyes scanning the room, alert and ready. But they didn’t yet know we were here. They had no clue about what was coming at them.
Ducking back outside, my mind races. We had to be smart about this. A frontal assault would put the kid at risk, but if we didn’t move fast, the situation could escalate.
I look at Torque and Snake, my voice low and urgent. “We take out the guards first. As quietly as possible. Then we go for him. No mistakes.”
They both nod, understanding the gravity of what we were about to do because they both have been in this same position.
We move as one, slipping into the building with deadly precision. The first guard doesn’t have time to react before Torque has him on the ground, disarmed and unconscious.
The second one turns just in time to see Snake coming at him, but not fast enough to stop the blow that knocked him out cold.
That left one more guard and Hugo. I signal to the others to hold back, slowly creeping forward alone. I have to take this last guy out without alerting Hugo.
The guard is standing near a stack of crates, his back to me. I move in silently, my hand ready on the hilt of my knife.
Just as I get within striking distance, the floor creaks beneath my foot. The guard spins around, but I’m faster.
Grabbing him by the throat and pulling him back, my knife at his neck. He struggles, but only for a moment before I silence him. A small gurgling sound passing through his lips.
Hugo was still oblivious of us being there, his focus entirely on Remmy, who is trembling in his grip.
The sight of that bastard holding him like that, threatening him, makes my blood boil within my veins.
I want to rush in, to tear him apart limb by limb for putting Remmy through this. His own son for fucks sake! But I had to be smart. One wrong move, and the kid could get hurt.
I signal to the others, letting them know it's time. Torque and Snake move in from opposite sides, while I step into the light, drawing Hugo’s attention.
His eyes widen when he sees me, a sneer curling his lips. “Let me guess, you’re the newest dumbass stupid enough to stick his wick where it doesn’t belong.” he spits, tightening his grip on Remmy. “You should’ve stayed out of this.”
“Let him go,” I growl, my voice low and dangerous. I keep my hands steady, ready to draw my gun if I have to, but not wanting to escalate things too quickly. “This ends now.”
He laughs, a cold, cruel sound. “You really think you can take me down? I’ve got more men close by, and when they hear you, you are done.”
