‘Shut up,’ she growled, her heart racing so fast it was fit to burst right out of her chest.

‘And here I was thinking I was the one who’d fuck this up.’

‘Rayan, shut up before I rip your fucking head off,’ she barked at him.

Unable to contain her anger, she sprinted away. She needed to put as much distance as possible between her and the twins. Not just that but she’d fucked up by disobeying. It made Heath look bad, like he didn’t know how to control his wolves. Though that didn’t bother her half as much as the mate bond did. She was furious, to say the least.

Heath’s heated mind pressing into hers stopped her in her tracks. ‘Office.’

His blood was boiling just as hers. He wasn’t speaking to her as Heath in that moment. He was her Alpha, who she’d just embarrassed in front of two others. She turned right away and rushed back to find a dress near her cabin before she shifted and made her way to his house.

She shook her head as Rayan approached out of the corner of her eye. “I told you to fuck off.”

He froze in motion, face falling as his best friend left him in the dust.

She took deep breaths, calming her emotions and prepared for her punishment. The tension in the office was so thick she could cut it with a knife. Heath sat at his desk with Wayne standing by his side and Marvin by the window. They all had hardened faces of disappointment—even disbelief. Her eyes dropped to the floor, unable to look at any of them.

“What the fuck was that?” Heath shouted abruptly getting up, the chair loudly banging against the hardwood floor. “Do you even know what you did?”

“I do.”

“Then tell me, Velora. What the fuck you were thinking? Making your pack look weak.”

“I wasn’t.”

“Fuck!”

“I’m sorry.”

By stepping out of line, she’d questioned the hierarchy of the pack. Which was bad in the first place, but she’d done it in front of outsiders.

Marvin moved away from the window, his eyes on her. “I thought you were ready, but I think we need more time to determine that.”

She nodded, her head still bowed.

“Look at me,” Heath demanded, and she followed his order right away. “You fucked up, Velora.” His eyes softened as they rested on hers.

“Don’t do that. I know what I did. I’m not your girlfriend right now.”

She could sense the surprise of the two other men in the room.

“Marvin will determine your punishment and you are not to go near the alphas again.”

Exactly what I was hoping for. “Yes, Alpha.” She turned to leave, Marvin right by her side.

When they stood on the front porch, he said, “I’ll call for you after the alphas have left.”

“Okay.” And she watched him walk away.

“Are you and dad breaking up?” Her head spun around to see Curtis sitting on the swing. “You said you’re not his girlfriend.”

She sighed and took the seat next to him. “Because in that moment, I wasn’t. I was my alpha’s warrior.”

“Why is he upset?”

“I disobeyed. I made him look weak in front of the other alphas.”

“And he was upset with you as his warrior and not you as his girlfriend?”
