“I told her,” Wayne admitted the moment Evelyne leaped forward and pulled her into a tight, loving hug.
Velora soaked in her embrace, swallowing hard as she tried to figure out what to do. Rayline answered for her, picking up her drink too hastily and spilling it all over herself.
“Oopsie,” she said, her eyes shooting up to her mother for help.
“I was going to change you anyway,” Evelyne laughed, pulling away from the embrace. “C’mon Princess, let’s get you pretty for dinner.”
As Evelyne disappeared, Mia and Curtis stepped through the front door with the three alphas behind them.
“Look what we made you,” Curtis cheered.
“It’s the cake that we made for Rayline’s birth,” Mia explained.
“We made like… ten but this one is the only one that tasted right.”
“You weren’t supposed to tell her that, Curtis,” Heath sighed.
“Sorry, Father.”
As they sat down to eat, the kids were the ones to keep the conversation flowing, peppering Isaiah and Asher with a ton of questions. Velora hid her dark storm of emotions from them, trying to be as cheerful as she could.
By the end of it, she was overwhelmed and exhausted and was glad when it was time to go again.
They all walked together before Heath and his kids parted halfway through the village.
For once, Asher stayed silent and Isaiah typed away on his phone. Once in the cabin, she ducked into her bedroom to change before scouring the pantry for something to settle her nerves.
“Would you like to talk about the journey now or tomorrow?” Isaiah asked from the couch.
“What about it?”
“We have a rogue problem, so we wanted to make sure you’re part of the planning.”
“Might as well do it now,” she sighed, opening the freezer to grab her tub of ice cream. She sat down in the armchair opposite them and started digging into her treat.
“Swiftport has been flooded by rogues lately,” Isaiah explained. “So we’ll meet up with a few warriors to drive through the city and back to the village.”
She only answered him with a nod as she enjoyed her sweet treat.
“We don’t think anything will happen, but we like to be on the safe side,” Asher continued.
“We’ll meet up just outside of Swiftport and drive through together.”
“Fine,” she finally said.
“Is there anything you would like to have bought for you before you arrive?”
Her gaze flickered between the two as she crooked a brow, suspicious of the question.
“We’re not trying to buy you,” Isaiah said. “We just want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible.”
She snorted to herself as she thought about flooding them with insane demands.
Isaiah seemed to sense her thoughts, a grin forming on his lips. “You don’t have to think about it right now.”
“Anything else?”
They both seemed surprised at her question, Asher being the one to answer. “Not about the travel.”
