“Sure.” I shrugged.

The entire reason I came here was for a distraction, right? Plus, I felt like destroying something pretty. And she was pretty. Like a porcelain doll wrapped up in lace.

Darry was skeptical while Atlee jumped up in excitement. “Let’s fucking do this!”

He promptly marched over to the corner, leaving Darry and I alone at the table. Atlee squatted down and stroked her cheek.

Darry shook his head. “I swear that guy walks around with a hard on twenty-four/seven.”

There was an image I didn’t need.

“But he gets the job done.”

Thirty seconds was all it took for Atlee to make the fear in the brunette’s eyes die a little. He was too good at this game. Fucker was probably telling her that she didn’t belong here, and he was going to take her somewhere safe. And like a dumb bitch, she was falling for it. Her bottom lip had even stopped trembling.

Darry crooked his head to the side. “She kind of looks like Nova.”

“Really? I hadn’t noticed.”

He didn’t believe me. That much I could tell from the look he gave me in response. Part of me wanted to ask if that was why he was watching her, and a bigger part of me wanted to punch him for it. But I kept my cool and clenched my jaw.

“You sure you want to do this?”

“Why wouldn’t I want to do it?”

“Well, like I said… she looks like Nova.”

My eyes snapped over to his. “Is that why you didn’t point her out?”

“I was gonna… until you showed up.”

I didn’t know how to take that. Should I kill him, or thank him? Darry obviously was concerned about me seeing them fuck her, but he still wanted to fuck her. Even though she looked a tiny bit like Nova.

“You sure about this?” He asked one more time. “Once Atlee brings her over here, he’s not going to let you get out of it.”

“I wouldn’t have said anything if I didn’t.”

Did I want to do this? Hurt someone until they were begging me to stop? Yes. Did I want to do it to her? No. But she would make a good substitute. Besides, it was too late to start questioning things. Atlee was already leading the girl over to our table.

I watched them walk over while Darry sat up and adjusted himself. Despite his supposed uninterest, he was good to go, which made me want to punch him more. Atlee didn’t give a shit who they used – like I said two feet and a heartbeat – but now I was starting to wonder if Darry would fuck Nova had I not claimed her.

“Guys, this is June.” Atlee threw his arm over the girl’s shoulder. “She’s Vince Mahoney’s little sister.”

No shit. She certainly didn’t look like someone responsible for the death of an entire family. Kids and all. Then again, drunk drivers didn’t exactly have a specific look. Vince came to my dad for help to cover it up. Her brother died last week. He was hit by a drunk driver. How ironic was that? Now she had to pay off the debt.

“Hi, June.” Darry sat forward and placed his elbows on the table. “Your brother was a good man.”

No he wasn’t. Vince was a slimeball piece of shit who dealt meth to kids.

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

“I’m not.” I said while examining her face.

Now that she was closer to the light, I could see the light blue in her eyes. At least those didn’t remind me of Nova. The rest of her however…

June’s bright gaze swung from Darry, to me, and back again.

Out of the two of us, it was Darry that made her shoulders relax a little. Can’t say I blamed her. If I didn’t know the guy, the smile he gave her would’ve fooled me, too.
