Her heart raced, and she laughed. “Well, you do keep things interesting, like a Stone always does.”

Micah reached out to hold her hand. “Maybe it’s because we can’t control our future together, but we can do this right now.”

“Right. Seize the day.” Cheyenne grinned. She really was falling in love with this man.

She had to find that gold, too, even if she didn’t know what the consequences would be.

CHAPTER 28

Micah

They pulled up to the cemetery in Wilmington just as the sun was setting. Micah put the truck in park and cut the engine. “Let’s wait another twenty minutes so it’s a little darker.”

Cheyenne scooted over and took his hand. They’d been singing country music at the top of their lungs the whole way here. It had been amazing.

“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” she said.

Micah laughed. “Dead Poets Societyhad it right. You gotta seize the day.”

“Micah Stone.” She shook her head. “No matter what, we will always have this week.”

He didn’t want to reply with just words. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into him. “I want more.”

She froze.

He let her go and stared into her beautiful green eyes. “I don’t know how it will look, but I want more with you. I start my SEAL training in two weeks, so I guess it’s not a great time to get married, but …”

Her eyes widened. “Get married?”

He couldn’t help but laugh. “Hey, I’m surprising myself too. But the more I turn this over in my mind, the more I realize that’s the end game for us, isn’t it? We get married. We have children. We raise them together. We have a house in Wyoming and a house here.”

“Are you serious?” She pushed him in the shoulder. “Are you really serious?”

Gently, he pressed his lips to hers. “I’m serious. I’m dead serious.” He held her tightly, and he couldn’t believe that he could be so set on this. He could see his life stretching out before him. “I’ll start SEAL training. You start law school. Maybe by Christmas we get married?”

“Are you seriously proposing to me before we go raid a cemetery?”

He laughed and caressed her face. “I guess so. What do you say?”

Before she could respond, someone rapped their knuckles against his window. The person was wearing a hoodie, but it was unmistakably Raine.

Cheyenne let out a little squeal and covered her face. Micah opened the door and gestured for him to scoot in.

“I’ve been waiting for you guys all day,” Raine said, shoving his way onto the driver’s seat. “Move over. Let’s talk.”

Micah didn’t fit well in the middle, which was comical, but he turned to Raine. “What do you mean, you’ve been waiting for us all day?”

“No one can resist a gold hunt.”

Cheyenne was dumbfounded. “So you knew we would come get the amulet?”

Raine shrugged. “If there’s anything I’m good at, it’s reading people and reading the opportunity risks and rewards in life. You know I grew up rough. I did a lot of things with my brother. We lived on the streets for a time. Stealing became secondnature, which I’m not proud of, and I tried to make amends for it. So I guess I’m here because part of me wants to talk you out of doing this.”

Micah was confused. “And what does the other part want to do?”

“Well, the other part needs to tell you this. I have all of your relatives waiting in a big van down the street. We all agreed we need to get the amulet.”
