“Good,” I grin up at him and his eyes soften.
“Rex, do you know that guy?” Olivia asks, not letting it go.
“Who?”
She nods in the direction of the bar.
“Him. By himself. I swear he looks familiar.”
He looks then I watch as his demeanor changes. Body stiff and rigid.
“Yeah. Yeah, I know him.”
“Who is he?” she wonders but he’s already striding away with purposeful steps.
“Couldn’t stay away?” he barks once he’s standing next to the gentleman at the bar.
“Now, now. Is that any way to treat your flesh and blood? What was I supposed to do? You weren’t answering my calls. My texts. My emails. Hell, I even tried to send you a message through Facebook.”
“Should’ve gotten the point then, huh?”
“Rex, brother…” Holy shit. Is that Troy? Rex’s brother?
Oh this could be bad. Really, really bad.
“Nah. You’re not my brother. What do you want?”
“I heard Mom called you?”
“Yeah. Told her what I thought of it, too. So what are you doing here, Troy?”
I know Rex can hear my gasp when my suspicions are confirmed.
“What? A guy can’t come see his little brother? What’s it been?”
“Six years. And it was the best six years of my life.”
For a second I think I see Troy’s shoulders drop but then he stands up and I know what he’s about to say is only going to anger me.
“Yeah. Me too. Except you could have warned me what a fucking bore Amber would turn out to be.”
He did not…
“Who’s Amber? And Troy? I’m so confused,” Olivia whispers to me and I shush her.
“Not my problem you couldn’t keep your wife entertained.”
Troy chuckles. “You still got a hard on for her? I’m done, you can have my seconds this time.”
“Nope. I’m good. Is that all you came for? I’ll show you the door.”
“Got anywhere we can talk privately?”
“Nope.”
“All that fancy college you went through and all you can say is nope? Good thing you geeked out so bad in high school that you got those scholarships. Mom and Dad would be pissed if they saw that this was how you ended up.”
“And how is that?” Rex asks, arms crossed over his chest, stance wide.
