“Hey babe,” he answered brightly, my night owl wide awake.

“Hey. So, Hana went back to Jack. I don’t think they went to the loft though and she left kind of suddenly. Do you happen to know where they’re at?” I asked nonchalantly, heading towards the subway.

“Hm, no, I haven’t heard from him. They can’t be far though. Jack and I have a meeting tomorrow and rehearsal tomorrow night,” he answered back, no hint of suspicion in his voice.

I felt a small sense of relief. I forced a smile on my face. “Okay. It’s probably fine then. Can I come over?”

“Please do,” I could hear the smile in Adam’s voice as well.

I quickly hung up and dialed Jack again. Straight to voicemail. I dialed again. Voicemail. I would find out where Hana was, even if I had to go to Jack myself.

HANA.

I don’t know if I slept at all during the night. Jack and I fucked in the shower, then again in the king sized bed, then he held me all night, his arms never once letting go of me. I wasn’t comfortable, but I didn’t want to disturb him. I knew a well-rested Jack would be happier and easier to deal with. When Jack stirred awake around 9 AM, I groggily opened my eyes and greeted him with a smile. I had to be on my A game, especially now.

“Hi,” I whispered.

I wasn’t surprised at the butterflies in my belly when I saw him smiling back at me.

“Good morning, sweetheart. Rest well?” he asked, his fingertips stroking my cheek.

“Yes,” I nodded, my responses automatic now.

His smiled widened. “I don’t want to leave you today. But I need to attend a meeting with Adam, then we need to rehearse for a show we’re having Saturday,” his smile started to fade.

My heart dropped. I didn’t think I could handle being alone, not yet. I needed supervision. I would try to run, I just knew it.

My smile was gone now as well. “What about me?”

Jack licked his lips and suddenly looked nervous. “I’ve asked Jessica to come keep you company today while I’m gone,” he answered hesitantly.

I wanted to groan and put up a fight. I somehow suppressed it. “Okay,” I nodded.

Jack raised his eyebrows at me, looking a little surprised. “Okay then,” he smiled again.

He seemed pleased that I was so compliant. I had to be. I had to make this easy for myself: I knew what to say and what to do to make Jack happy. And if that meant putting up with Jessica for the day, then so be it.

By 10, Jessica was knocking on our door. Jack and I had just finished showering and I sat looking out the window at Central Park, still in a towel, my clothes from the previous day dirty. Jack assured me that Jessica was bringing us a change of clothes.

“Hello, sister,” Jack answered the door, 100% comfortable only being in the pajama shorts that he had requested from the front desk.

“Oh god, here. Put some clothes on,” she groaned, handing him an H&M shopping bag, diverting her eyes to me.

“I’m not much better,” I smiled shyly at her after I watched Jack go into the bathroom.

I was nervous being alone with her. We hadn’t been alone together since I knew she was involved in all of this with Jack.

“That’s alright. I got a few things for you. Jack told me your size. I hope that’s alright,” she said kindly as she held up another H&M bag.

“Thanks,” I nodded as I stood up, holding the towel that was wrapped around me tightly.

I took the bag from her and quickly joined Jack in the bathroom.

Jack watched me through the mirror as I slipped on a new pair of underwear, jeans and a plain white t-shirt. Jessica had gotten each of us two pairs of clothes, even socks and underwear, knowing exactly our style and sizes. I watched as he pulled a black, long-sleeved shirt over his toned upper body, eyeing the wedding ring that was on his left hand. I looked down at mine – it was still sparkly and pretty, making me forget about our situation temporarily.

“I’ve asked Jessica to help you get a new phone today. She’ll be turning on the location for me once it’s all activated. I don’t want you calling or texting anyone else,” Jack instructed, running his hand through his hair, still eyeing me through the mirror.
