Chapter Four

Colton

I had to admit, I hated this part of the night.

But the stupid games were a crowd-pleaser, so I kept doing them.

I did appreciate the break midway through my set, anyway. I let the host, a nerdy-looking guy with a great voice, take my place on stage and walked toward the bar.

And then I reconsidered and went into the VIP area.

The girls I’d given VIP passes to were there.

The taller one, the redhead, was talking to a dark-haired guy and sipping a drink.

But the other girl, the shorter one, was sitting on one of the couches. She held a cocktail but wasn’t drinking it.

She looked nervous.

After grabbing a drink, I went toward her, sitting on the other end of the empty couch. “Hey.”

She jumped, turning her head to look at me. “Oh! Um, hi.”

I held my bottle up, gesturing around the VIP area. “This seemed more like your speed.”

She laughed nervously. “Yeah, uh… This was my friend’s idea. I’m not a big partier.”

I nodded. “It’s cool. It happens. I thought this would be better for you.” I turned my head, looking at the redhead. She was a little skinny for my tastes.

This girl was perfect.

I extended my right hand. “Colton. Or, y’know, DJ Pike.”

She laughed. “Emma.”

“Good to meet you, Emma.”

She nodded. “Yeah, good to meet you, too.” She smiled, letting go of my hand and shifting uneasily.

But she didn’t look away from me.

I shifted just a little closer.

The music quieted, and the host came over the mic. After his intro, he started in on the spiel. “Some of our beautiful ladies will be bringing around baskets of fruit for anyone who wants to play, so partner up! Find somebody you’re hoping to get lucky with and grab a basket, folks, and let’s have some fun!”

A handful of the models I hired for the week came in, carrying small baskets on their arms. I watched as the redhead grabbed one, hooking her other arm around the man she was talking to.

Other people in the VIP section grabbed them, too.

Emma didn’t.

I looked at her, raising my eyebrows. “You wanna play?”

She blinked in surprise. “You… want to play with me?”

More than she knew.

I laughed. “Why not? It’s stupid. We’ll laugh a lot, at least.”
