“Can’t I go home?”

“Didn’t take you for stupid, Carmelle. Fury willsearch there first. Suck shit up because your life ain’t ever going to be the same,” Volcano snapped.

Following that remark, silence ensued. That statement didn’t invite a reply.

“I’m gonna pull in at a drive-in. Get the kids some food before taking you to Sharp. Any preferences?”

“Burgers are fine.”

Volcano nodded and pulled into a burger place. He placed the order and handed it over to me to feed Shannon. Damn, the meal was good, nothing like what we’d been eating for the last few months.

Volcano parked at a hotel and motioned me to get out. “Stay close,” he ordered, getting Sadie’s bag. I glanced at the building and then my clothing. Shit, I resembled a whore, and this place appeared in the higher bracket.

Volcano didn’t care less as we marched through the reception to the elevators.

The guy behind the desk stared at us suspiciously and began to come out when the doors opened. Volcano hit a floor button while staring at the receptionist, who backed away. The doors opened again, and Volcano stomped along the hallway to a door and knocked.

The door unlocked, and I was shocked to see the stranger. His eyes met mine, and he inclined his head.

Sharp

Sharp stayed in a hotel for the next few nights afterthat scene with Carmelle. He couldn’t get the look of Carmelle’s absolute terror out of his mind. He’d meant what he had said, and he was just getting into bed when somebody knocked. Sharp opened it and discovered Volcano and Carmelle with her kids.

“Get in!” Volcano ordered, shoving them in and handing Sharp a heavy bag.

“What the hell?” Sharp demanded.

“Fury’s got a club coming in this week. To celebrate them joining us, he was giving them Carmelle. Asshole planned to strap Carmelle down to a table and let them fuck her raw. Once they’d finished and if she was still alive, Fury planned to give her to his own men. Carmelle must leave tonight. Fury’s ranting. Michaelson’s done something to piss him right off, and Carmelle is going to pay for it,” Volcano explained.

Sharp blinked. This was the longest conversation Volcano had ever had with him.

“What’s your deal here?” Sharp demanded.

“I’ve been working to take Fury down. Got a story to tell you, but not now. Get Carmelle to safety. Once Fury knows she’s gone, there’s gonna be hell to pay,” Volcano said. He yanked his wallet out and handed Sharp a thousand dollars.

“Get them some decent clothing and keep them safe. Don’t let them come back. Hear me? If Fury gets his hands on them again, I’ll bury you.”

“You can fuckin’ try,” Sharp said, and Volcano snorted.

“I’d snap you in two.” Volcano looked across toCarmelle, who stood wide-eyed, staring at them. “Didn’t know they were gonna do your husband. Those involved will pay for that. Trust this man. He’ll see you safe. If you create a fuss and get cops involved, within twenty-four hours, Fury will have you and the kids again. Some of those cunts like baby girls. Stay with Sharp and keep your mouth shut until we make our move to take Fury down,” Volcano ordered.

“Okay,” Carmelle whispered.

Sharp wondered if she understood what ‘do your husband’ meant.

“Hey. I won’t let him get you,” Volcano promised, and Sharp was shocked at the softness in Volcano right then.

Carmelle nodded, and Volcano disappeared.

“You can’t go out in that. I’ve got some sweats; you’ll have to roll them up, and I’ll give you a tee. It will cover you better than those… clothes,” Sharp said, eyeing the low-cut tank and mini skirt. They were different from the ones she’d worn earlier.

“That’s fine,” Carmelle whispered.

“Go change in there, I’ll pack. We’re leaving now,” Sharp ordered as he picked his phone up.

He dialled Romeo and informed him he needed an emergency escape and to have the plane ready. For once, Romeo agreed and didn’t ask questions.

Sharp grabbed the bag and lifted the two kids up as Carmelle came out.
