Ipulled into Angel’s massive driveway then sighed. Monni urged me to go spend time with Angel, something I planned on doing anyway. Something was up with my best friend, and I couldn’t quite pinpoint it unless I was looking her in the eyes. Over the phone, she swore up and down that everything was okay. I hadn’t seen her since being in the hospital after having Neosyne.
Honestly speaking, that made me feel some type of way because Neosyne was one month old and she hadn’t been by the house to visit. That was very weird, and I planned on calling her out on her bullshit. The first thing that I noticed was that all of her curtains were closed. During the day, Angel opened all of her curtains to every room in her house to let the sun in. She even liked to open up all of her windows to air her house out.
My stomach turned, as an unsettling feeling took over me. What the hell was up with her? I got super determined to get to the bottom of everything. Her and Detavio breaking up really turned her world upside down. She swore up and down that she was fine and that it was for the best. I didn’t buy it at all. I started to notice two months after them breaking up she lost a lot of weight. I was against her getting an abortion; her excuse to getting one didn’t make sense to me at all.
I took it as her simply being scared and not ready for motherhood. Angel went through a period of shutting me out. I hated it but didn’t want to press her and then the result would be her cutting me off. I wasn’t going to go too hard on her about not coming to see my baby at home when it dawned on me also that maybe it was hard for her to see him when she got rid of her baby. There was so many unanswered questions with Angel. She told me that Detavio’s lifestyle started to get to her, and that he stopped making her a priority.
That was one of her excuses for calling the quits on their relationship. Whenever she asked me how he was doing, she was simply telling on herself. She missed Detavio, and when it came to that man…she talked in circles, never getting to a good enough reason to why she actually ended things. Their breakup didn’t just affect her, it affected Detavio as well. I felt bad for both of them. Detavio only had his brothers in his corner while the entire world looked at him as some type of monster that deserved to be locked away. Although no one had concrete evidence, people already made their assumptions about him.
I shook my head and stepped out of my car. I took in a deep breath then made my way to Angel’s front door. Before I could knock, Angel snatched the door open quickly and pulled me in frantically. With me standing behind her, she peeked her head out the door and stood there for a couple of seconds like she was paranoid, trying to take in the outside of her house.
“Angel, what the fuck is up? And why it smell like this in here?” I turned away from her back and looked around the front of the family room.
My stomach got tight, the air inside was thick. It looked like a storm rushed through the front of her house. It was unlike Angel not to clean up, she was a neat freak. The room was littered with half-opened boxes, food containers stacked on the coffee table, untouched like she was just ordering food but never eating it. Blankets was on the couch and floor, so it became obvious that this is where she’s been sleeping.
My eyes welled up with tears just as Angel turned around fast and wild. She looked startled as hell; her eyes widened, and my heart dropped. Angel’s smooth light caramel complexion was dull, her skin was dry around the mouth area. Beneath her eyes was swollen like she hadn’t slept in days. Her once plush frame looked smaller. Angel looked fragile, and it broke my heart to see her in this state.
Again, I felt guilty as fuck. Although I just had a baby, I saw back at the hospital that something wasn’t right with her.
“Angel…what the fuck is going on?” I whispered as I stepped closer to her to take her in.
She shook her head then ran her chipped nails through her wild, untamed hair. She whispered something back underneath her breath that I didn’t catch. The closer I made it to her, the louder I heard her.
“They—he—a lot of people are watching me, Tavi. It’s making me lose my fucking mind… I need Detavio, it’s killing me softly but—but I have to keep y’all safe and do what he says,” Angel’s voice cracked.
Her knees gave out, she fell to her marble floor with a loud thud. With her fingers tangled in her hair, she cried. I stood in shock for a few seconds. I have never in my life seen her like this. The cries that came from Angel didn’t sound like regular human cries. This cry sounded raw and broken, this cry came from a place that would probably be hard for me to reach.
“I can’t sleep, barely can breathe…” She hiccupped as I dropped down to the floor beside her.
“It’s no longer Detavio watching me! I killed his baby so I know that he won’t protect me, Natavi…I don’t know who the fuck I am anymore—I—I’m…” She couldn’t finish her sentence as she choked off her own words.
I wrapped my arms around her and cried with her. I could feel her unspoken pain, and after this moment, she would not be alone. My eyes darted around the room as I held her tighter; the longer I looked, the more I saw that all of this was a cry for help. I took to fuckin’ long to check up on her, she was over here killing herself softly.
“Let me get you cleaned up, Angel. Next, you’re going to talk to me and tell me everything. You will not hold back or fight me on this. I have to help you,” I told her as I pulled her back by the shoulders to look at me.
Her eyes went wild again, fear was evident in them.
“Not here! I can’t do anything here…take me to Detavio…I need to be—I want to shower there and tell him everything! I don’t care what he does to my family anymore because my family doesn’t care about me!” Her voice went up a few octaves.
“Who is he? What is going on?” I asked, even more confused and a little scared.
“Impurity—he’s still alive.”
Chapter12
Octavio
“Run all of that shit back to me again!” Detavio gritted out at Monster.
His fingers drummed so hard against his glass diner table, causing it to rattle. Monster sat across from Detavio with a blank expression on his face. Every couple of seconds, his eyes diverted to Neosyne’s car seat to make sure he was still asleep; his jaws clenched in anger.
Monster kept his mouth shut; he stared at Detavio with an emotionless expression. I couldn’t help but to look at them both with concern. Detavio picked up his shot glass and knocked it back. His facial expressions usually mirrored Monsters, he couldn’t hold back his array of emotions either.
“Monster is not going to repeat himself, Bro.” I finally spoke after thirty minutes of remaining silent.
With all the information that Monster dropped on us about his past and how Jalissa came in as a fake ass hero to act like she wanted to finally be in his life, made me sick to the stomach. What made it worse was me already putting two and two together about him being trafficked as a baby. He was forced inside of brothels and now a man by the name of Tai was after him.
Everything he said made the inside of my stomach churn, I yearned for revenge. Monster had it the hardest out of all of us. He carried his pain along with his trauma horribly. I saw that he was broken beyond fixing, Natavi and Neosyne was a part of his healing and therapy…sad to say, they wouldn’t be enough to totally change the monster that these sick muthafuckas created inside of him.
