I couldn’t believe it as I watched the animal cautiously approach, sniffing the ground around where the grill stood.

Grinning triumphantly, Alyssa said, “I’m glad I saved the scraps from dinner now.”

From the paper plate on the ground next to her, she took a piece of half-eaten burger and threw it in the direction of the fox. The animal startled for a minute, but then it smelled the food, and started nibbling on it.

“How cute!” Alyssa cooed, and I knew it was a moment neither of us would ever forget.

After dinner, we spent another evening under the stars. After eating the remains of the burger, the fox had moved deeper into the forest to hunt for more food, leaving Alyssa and I alone.

It wasn’t long before we were removing each other’s clothing, as our mouths locked together, and even the excitement of seeing a fox in the wild faded from our minds.

As we made love under the stars for the second night in a row, I felt like I never wanted this moment to end. Even going back to the reality of the cabin seemed too much right now. There was something magical about the peaceful solitude of the forest and being with Alyssa in this most intimate way. It felt very primal, like we were the only two people on Earth.

“Ineed your help with something,” I said, as Mavis and I relaxed by the pool after breakfast.

It was a few days since David, and I had returned from our ‘vacation’. I’d loved spending time, just the two of us, alone and surrounded by nature. Every night, we’d made love under the stars. As the moonlight shone down on us, I felt our bond grow stronger and stronger.

Eventually the need for things like a shower, and proper home cooked food became too great for either of us to ignore, and we’d made our way back to the cabin.

I’d been with David, Mavis and Lawrence at the cabin for almost six weeks now, and it felt so much like home it was uncanny. Yes, I wanted to see my parents again, and I wasdesperateto be finally free of the Bloodline, but the cabin had a tranquil atmosphere I’d never experienced anywhere else. I knew David and I would visit again, frequently, once all this was over.

“Go on,” Mavis prompted, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I blinked to clear my head, and said, “I wanted to repay David for the vacation he planned for us.”

“Oh yeah?” Mavis wiggled her eyebrows suggestively and we both started laughing.

“Well yes, I was going to order something sexy. But I want it to be about more than sex, you know. I want to show him how much he means to me.”

Mavis placed her ice latte on the coffee table, and smiled, “How about a first edition of one of his favorite books?”

I grinned. “Mavis, that’s an excellent idea.”

With Mavis’ suggestion, I went online to find a first edition ofThe Lord of the Rings. The books weren’t cheap, but I could more than afford them. The tricky part would be getting them delivered, and in the end, Mavis and I agreed to have the books delivered to her and Lawrence’s house.

“I’m sure David will have no issue if I tell him I need to pop home to get some supplies,” Mavis said.

“Perfect,” I replied, ordering the books with express delivery so that they would arrive as soon as possible.

Along with the books, I also ordered some sexy lingerie to surprise David with, and then asked Lawrence if he could prepare a special romantic meal for us.

Just as Mavis had predicted, David had no problem with her returning home briefly, and she was able to leave the package containing the books in the guestroom I now used as a studio, so David didn’t have a clue what I had planned.

With everything in place, it was time to reveal my surprise to David.

“I wanted to thank you for the vacation you planned,” I said, as David and I sat enjoying our breakfast out on the deck.

David laughed. “Seeing the look of delight on your face when we saw that fox is all the thanks I need.”

I smiled at the memory. “I know, but I still wanted to do something nice for you, so I’ve asked Lawrence to cook a special meal for the two of us tonight. I thought we could dress up -- you know, like we’re going on a real date somewhere.”

David grinned. “I love the idea. And just so you know, when all this is over, and we’re free to go wherever we want, I promise, I’ll take you on arealdate.”

This was the first time David had mentioned us doing something together once the Bloodline were caught, and the thought made my heart summersault.
