“Th–thank you.” A sob escaped her, then she managed to say, “I’m so sorry.”
Chapter 34
Jackal
“Fucking hell,” Hawk said, running his hand down his face.
“She showed us the closed circuit video. It was Butch that day, for sure. She didn’t have cameras in her office but he walked in the front, then wandered around, enjoying the wedding before you could see him slip into her office after her,” Eagle said.
I spoke up. “She’s shaken up. I told her we’d have some members hang around until we sort this out. She’s still weary of us, though. Didn’t want to give us her parents’ info.”
Hawk leaned up. “I’ll get some guys on rotation. They need to go without their cut. If not and those guys show up, they’ll know she squealed and she won’t be safe. I won’t send guys to her parents’ if she doesn’t want them there.”
“She said they don’t live around here, anyway, but that could be an hour away, or three days away.” I don’t blame her for being cautious. She doesn’t know us and probably only blabbed to mebecause I was pressing her for info.
“We need a plan. They have to plan to ambush us or something. We can’t very well send all the women in like it’s a normal fucking day,” Hawk said. “But this could be our chance to finally get ‘em.”
“How can we pull that off if they don’t buy it? These assholes clearly have eyes everywhere. Hell, there could be another insider,” I said.
Falcon nodded. “I hate to admit it, but that makes the most sense. Even without the trackers, they know where we are and what we’re doing.”
“Goddammit!” Hawk shouted as he threw his beer bottle across the room. It shattered against the wall, spraying foam at the end of the table. “Pops was a good man.” He shook his head gently. “Why the fuck would anyone turn on him?”
“Greed and jealousy are good motivators,” I said. “And money.”
“Everyone here is taken care of,” he barked.
“But Butch thought he deserved more than he had,” Eagle said.
Hawk shook his head. “That piece of shit got more than he earned.”
I waited a few beats to see if Hawk was going to say anything else, then said, “We gotta figure out how to handle this. Like you said, we can’t have all the ladies show up if there’s a possibility they plan to attack us. But if we don’t show up, who knows when we’ll have this chance again.”
“And there’s Angie. She’s an innocent woman in all this,” Eagle said.
“Exactly. If we don’t show up, they could retaliate on her, and as of right now, we don’t know where to find them.”
Hawk said, “We start doubling our search. If we can find them before the wedding date, it won’t be an issue.”
“And if we don’t?” Red asked.
“I’ll have a plan ready. In the meantime, we need to keep our eyes and ears peeled on everyone here. It was bad enough Butch turned on us, but it makes sense he still has someone on the inside. They’re fucking everywhere. How else could they know our every move?”
“Maybe we should keep any plans and searches between us?” I asked.
Hawk nodded. “We could use extra numbers, but since we don’t know who the fuck this other rat could be, we may have to keep it to our skeleton crew while we search.”
“Hey,” Falcon said. “What happened with that madame? Mama Hen find anything out?”
Hawk shook his head. “No, I just asked her if she had her name and contact info, but what she gave me didn’t work, and Keys hasn’t been able to find her yet. I don’t want her digging around in whatever this is. She’s been through enough.”
We all nodded in unison, the room going silent.
Hawk smacked the table. “Alright, fellas. Search starts tonight.”
