The world beyond the walls of the cabin faded away. There was only the two of us, wrapped in each other’s arms, surrendering to the pull of desires both tender and wild.
“Tell me you want me.” His eyes searched mine for any hint of hesitation.
“More than anything,” I assured him, reaching down to guide him inside.
He entered me, and the world fell away. It was just Declan and me, moving together in perfect four-four time. His thrusts were deliberate, powerful, yet filled with an emotion that made my heart swell. I arched into him, meeting him stroke for stroke, lost in the sensation, the profound intimacy, of the act.
“Kelsey, you feel incredible,” he groaned, his movements growing more urgent.
“Declan, don’t stop.” The coils of pleasure that I only felt with him tightened within me. The fourth orgasm of the day was already building. No one else had ever done this to me before. I was lucky to get four orgasms a relationship, not a day.
“Never,” he vowed, his pace relentless, driving us both toward the edge. “I’ll love you forever.”
His words ignited something inside of me, and my climax hit me so hard, overwhelming, and all-consuming, and I cried out his name as I shattered around him. Declan followed, his own release fierce and raw and the sexiest damn thing in the world.
We lay there, entwined under the covers, the little wood stove’s warmth cocooning us as we basked in the afterglow. Our hearts beat in sync, and the melody of a yet unwritten love song played in my head.
I closed my eyes and the last thing I noticed was Declan lifting Pooh off the floor and onto the pillow behind my head.
I had the dirtiest of dreams of Declan interspersed with weird visions about my guitar being plucked out of my hands and being replaced by a huge block of cheese. But the cheese turned into a giant cell phone that I had to keep scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, but I didn’t know what I was supposed to be looking for.
I jolted awake to find late morning sun shining in through the big window and Declan bare-ass naked trying to quietly teach Pooh how to roll over.
“What time is it?” I turned onto my side and curled up under the blanket, not quite ready to get up. I couldn’t remember the last time I slept through the night and also slept in.
“Don’t know. No phones, remember?” He grinned at that like he’d just scored a touchdown, or perhaps like he’d just tackled the guy with the ball. Either way, he was damn proud of himself. “But I suppose we’ll have to check the clock in the SUV, because if you’re up for it, we have an invitation for tonight.”
There went the secluded vacation. I supposed one full day away was as much as I could expect. “From whom? If it’s with cameras, I’m going to need to go back to my suite and?—”
He held up a hand. “Nope. We’re not going anywhere near town for a few more days at least. But it’s Sunday, and me and the boys don’t have a game on account of our bye week, so that means it’s Kingman family game night.”
Game night with his family? That sounded way too cute for words. It would be nice and relaxing, and I’d get to know his family a little better.
“Sounds fun. But be prepared to get your butt kicked, because I’m kind of competitive if you hadn’t noticed.”
Declan laughed so loud that Pooh started barking just to join in. “You’re going to fit right in, babe.”
KINGMAN FAMILY GAME NIGHT
DECLAN
Kelsey and I walked the path to the Kingman family cabin. It was just down the hill, maybe ten minutes away, and the reason my parents had met in the first place. I’d have to tell Kelsey the story later of how my dad rescued my mom from a snowstorm.
We’d spent a lot of time up here as kids, and it felt like there was a new addition every year. There were six bedrooms, two baths, and just like at home, a big family room, sans television. It was mom’s one requirement. All she wanted was one room in the house where we could spend time as family and where there was no football.
The boisterous sounds of the Kingman family warming up for game night echoed through the trees, and Kelsey gave me a wide-eyed look. “Is that just your family?”
Pooh got excited by the noises and raced ahead. Through the trees we could sort of make out the front porch, so I wasn’t worried she’d get lost along the way. Plus, there was the squealof a particular younger sister welcoming the little dog home like she was one of the family. “Wiener the Pooh! Come here, that’s right, come here, girl. Yes, you’re so cute. Yes, you are.”
“Yeah, we get pretty rowdy when we’re all together. You tell me if we get to be too much for you. We can head back up whenever you want.” She’d met everyone, either with me or when she’d come to my game, but all eight kids, plus Chris’s fiancée Trixie, and my dad, well, that was a lot of Kingman cockiness in one room at the same time.
We pushed in the front door and laughter and teasing already filled the large living room, where the game of the night, double decker Uno, was already being set up, ready for an evening of competitive fun.
I glanced at Kelsey, worried that I’d made a mistake by pushing her back into that place where she felt like she had to be perfect in front of other people. My large, loud, crazy-competitive family might be too overwhelming for her. She was an only child and was supposed to be resting after all. But as she looked around, her eyes sparkled with excitement. Okay, maybe she was up for the challenge.
“Good, Declan and Kelsey are here just in time for your team assignments.” Dad clapped his hands and used his coach voice to get everyone’s attention. “Declan and Hayes, Chris and Gryff, Everett and Isak, me and Flynn, and our newly established ladies alliance of Kelsey, Jules, and Trixie.”
Pooh gave a little bark as if to say she wanted to play too. My dad scooped her up and gave her a good ruffle on the head. “Mascotted, of course, by the tiniest dog to ever set foot in this cabin.”
